"Hold on a second, Kris! Did you really think I would let my children join your team!?" Chief Lau asked Kris calmly and approached him.

"Yes, Chief Lau, I think your son and daughter have the potential to be mages for our team," Kris replied to him valiantly.

Chief Lau sighs and looks at the window that has artwork of the sun and moon. "Look, there is something that the village hides.".

Stein replied, "Then, what could it be, Chief Lau?"

Kris then suddenly got a thought and said it out loud: "I think he's talking about the Burning Dragon and Freezing Owl, Stein. This village is most known for being attacked by those two giant beasts."

"Yes, but those beasts are inside my children," Chief Lau told them in a cold and brood look.

"You sealed those beasts inside Frieren and Brennen?" Stein was shocked.

Kris then looked at Frieren and asked her, "Is it true, Frieren?"

Frieren replied, "Yes, Kris, we have the monster's soul inside our body."

Kris then looked at Chief Lau, who was looking out the window, and asked, "Why do you not let them go out of the village with us, Chief Lau?"

Chief Lau replied, "First, the extreme heat of the ring of mesa could kill them, and second, I don't want them to die, or else the beast's spirit will come out.".

Brennen, who was watching and hearing all the conversation about him and her sister joining Kris' team, began to speak. "But, father, can we work this out for a bit?" Chief Lau then approaches Brennen.

"That's a no! Brennen! Seven years after your mother died, I'm still trying to hold my grunge and my depression, and I'm trying to keep you two safe! You're still young to be a mage, son!" he shouted at his son, making him terrified.

"We're not going to have a stupid argument for joining them, father!" Frieren comforts her brother after their father shouts at them.

Chief Lau suddenly realized from all the anger and argument that he had made, "I am terribly sorry, son and daughter; I didn't mean to shout at you two."

Brennen is still so terrified of his father that he clings to his sister.

"Is there a way to sort this out, Chief Lau?" Stein asked him while he was trembling.

Chief Lau then looked at Kris and Stein and thought of a way to keep his children safe while they explored with them. "I think I have an idea.".

The chief then goes to the Library of Records, and everyone follows him. The chief is searching for a grimoire. "There's got to be somewhere."

He scours the books one by one until he finds them. "Eureka! I have found it!"

"Isn't that mother's grimoire, father?" Brennen questioned his father.

"Yes, my son, it is your mother's grimoire." Chief Lau then smiled.

"What potion are you going to brew, Father?" Frieren asked her father.

Chief Lau scours the pages in the book and finds a spell: "I'm going to make this: a mushroom biome spell. It's mycelium that prevents monsters from spawning. It should keep you two safe, but it's only a one-time use when planted fun fact: the village's underground territory is covered by mycelium except for the ring of mesa and the outside. Go to Kris and Stein while I brew.".

Frieren and Brennen nodded at their father's orders and decided to go outside with Kris and Stein.

Frieren, Brennen, Kris, and Stein went outside the town hall and walked to the flower fields, where they discussed something.

"Why has your father suddenly become mad at us and then become excited?" Stein asked Frieren.

and Frieren replied, "Didn't you get it? He's mad at you guys because he is sometimes an overprotective father."

"The so-called daughter of a great mage has a bad temper like her father," Kris gave Frieren a solid burn.

"Solid burn, Kris." Frieren's face became embarrassed.

While they discuss in the fields, in the town hall laboratory, Chief Lau is working on a mushroom that, when planted, will spread across an area, preventing monsters from spawning. He brews in a cauldron because brewing stands hadn't been invented in this period. He started putting some red mushrooms, brown mushrooms, and bone meal inside the cauldron until all the ingredients were dissolved. After the potion is finished, he then puts small droplets on a red mushroom and seals it in a small box.

"There, when it's planted, the mycelium should spread fast, about a hundred blocks." He then takes the box and goes upstairs to the town hall, looking at his son and daughter.

While the chief watches his son and daughter in the flower fields, Kris and Stein have finally decided what to do with Frieren and Brennen.

"If you're going to prove that you guys are strong, we're going to have a friendly match," Kris told Frieren.

"Fine by me then, but we're not going to fight here," Frieren replied to Kris.

Kris and Stein nodded at Frieren's decision to find a spot to fight. They then followed Frieren, and she brought them to a practice arena.

"There, we could start our friendly match here," Frieren told Kris.

Then Kris replied, "Perfect, then let's do it." He then unsheathed his sword, and Stein opened his book full of scriptures.

"Um, sis', you know I can't have a wand or staff until I'm nine." Brennen looked worried that he didn't have a weapon to fight.

Then, Frieren gives him advice: "Use the basic flaming spell that Father and I taught you."

"Okay, sis'," Brennen replies to her, pulling out a book full of scriptures.

"Charge!" Kris shouted, and he and Stein began to go onward towards their siblings.

Frieren casts an ice spell and shoots at Kris' open area between the armor, but Kris dodges it! Kris then swung his iron sword at Frieren, but it got deflected by Brennen's flame attack. Stein then gives Kris temporary strength, boosting his body. Kris attacked, but Frieren blocked it with her staff.

"You are a tough knight, aren't you, Kris?" Frieren's determination grew more and more as they fought.

"C'mon, lil' bro'! Show them what you can to that priest!" Frieren told her brother while she fought Kris.

"Alrighty, sis'!" Brennen smiled and was full of determination. He then goes to Stein, who's supporting Kris, and casts a flame spell on Stein's robe.

Stein suddenly smelled something burning, and he looked down at his behind, seeing his robe on fire. "Ah! Fire! Fire! Fire! Stop! Drop! And Roll!".

He then stopped, dropped, rolled, and killed the fire, but he forgot that he was supporting Kris while fighting Frieren. "Oh no! I was supposed to support him!"

He then looked at Brennen, who was laughing, and said, "Why you little!".

Stein casts a fireball spell on Brennen, but Brennen laughs as he dodges, catches the fire, and throws it back to him.

"Return to the sender!" Brennen then laughed and said, "I didn't know fighting with magic was super fun!"

"But keep your guard on, Brennen," Frieren advised her brother while fighting Kris.

"What do you mean keeping my guard on?" Brennen looked Frieren and was open-guarded until Stein strained him with a chain spell.

"Haha! You should have understood your sister's advice!" Stein put his feet on Brennen's back.

"Oh, man! I lost!" Brennen got embarrassed.

"One down! One left!" Kris smirked at Frieren while fighting her.

As Stein helped Kris fight Frieren, Frieren realized what their weaknesses and thoughts were in her inner mind. "Wait a second! I know what their weaknesses are!"

She then rushes towards Stein, kicks him towards the wall, and throws ice spikes at his robe, making him locked and strained.

"I can't move! It's all up to you, Kris!"
Stein told Kris that he was going to fight on his own, and Kris took a deep breath.

Kris and Frieren fight so valiantly. Combat magic versus physical combat. They kept fighting until Frieren kicked the back of Kris' knees and made him fall to the ground. Kris suddenly grabbed Frieren's hair, and both of them rolled on the ground, Kris strained Frieren, making her plan backfire and making her blush.

"It looks like you're weak for a daughter of the grand high mage," Kris smirked.

"Think again, chump; the skies are up there." Frieren grinned, and Kris realized that he was the one that got stuck.

Kris' hands and legs couldn't because they got hold of Frieren, and Frieren smirked at him, making Kris blush.

"So? Are we on the team, Kris?" Frieren teases Kris.

Kris couldn't say a word because he was distracted by Frieren's look.

"Aww! So-called the strong knight of Grozav can't even beat me or a giant." Frieren gave Kris a solid burn.

Kris is still blushing and can't think of anything other than Frieren's teasing look on his face.

"Get up, Kris." Frieren then pats Kris' cheek, and Kris stands up.

"Hey, Kris! I need a little help, please! I'm still stuck on the wall!" Stein shouted at Kris.

"Sis'! Could you remove these chains!?" Brennen shouted at her sister. Demanding that he be unchained.

Kris removed the ice spikes that made Stein hang, and Frieren unchained her brother. They all began to clean up the practice arena after they fought each other and went outside. Kris and Stein have decided that Frieren and Brennen are worthy to be part of their party. All four of them went to the town hall, and the inside was too quiet.

"That's weird, where is dad? He was supposed to be happy when he saw us." Frieren got confused about where his father was.

Little did Frieren and Brennen know. Chief Lau then went downstairs and saw what happened, and his face was proud.

"You two did the most excellent fight, Frieren and Brennen! I'm so proud of you two!" Chief Lau then hugged his children.

"Wait! Father, you were watching us fight with Kris and Stein!?" Brennen questioned his father.

"Why yes! You two cooperated. Though you lost the friendly match, Brennen, your determination is like the burning fire of the Brennen Dragon!" Chief Lau replied to him and smiled at him.

"Really, father!?" Brennen then smiled.

Chief Lau then looked at his daughter and said, "Frieren, I'm so sorry what happened earlier, and I hope you can forgive me. Your mind is like the intelligence of Frieren Owl, but you get angered easily like me."

Frieren replies, "I already forgive you, father."

"I think I'm about to cry! This father-and-child moment is so wholesome!" Stein began to shed tears of joy.

"So, Chief Lau, is it a yes that you allow Frieren and Brennen to join us?" Kris asked the chief.

"Yes, by tomorrow morning, you will leave on an adventure, including my children." Chief Lau then nods yes.

Chief Lau looks outside, seeing that the sun is about to set. "Looks like today's dinner time! Come with me, Kris and Stein!" Chief Lau smiled after offering them.

"Sure, chief!" Kris smiled.

Stein said, "I can't deny that offer, chief! That's a yes for me!".

The chief smiled and said that Kris and Stein accepted his offer to have dinner with him. In the Town Hall Grill, a restaurant behind the town hall run by him and his children, they cook food and begin to eat their dinner.

The next day, early in the morning, Frieren, Brennen, Kris, and Stein took a quick bath and breakfast and began to pack their things. As they prepare to leave, the chief then calls his daughter.

"Um, Frieren! There's something you forgot!" Chief Lau then ran to his daughter and pulled out the box.

"What's that, father?" Frieren questions him.

"It's a box that, if you plant it, you and your brother will be safe forever, and take care of your brother." The chief then gave it to his daughter.

"Yes, Father, I will protect Brennen at all costs." Frieren nodded and went inside the cart.

"Goodbye, Father!" Brennen waves goodbye to his father.

"Don't forget to drink plenty of water in the Ring of Mesa, Brennen!" Chief Lau then smiled as he saw his children leaving on an adventure.

Brennen then shouts, "We will, Father!".

To be continued.
