Willow's pov

"Where the fuck have you been?"

Ellie stood before me scratching the back of her head awkwardly. Jesse and I interrogating her.

"Shit Ellie we even tried contacting Joel."

"Yeah no shit. He called last night hysterical though I was missing or some shit."

"So where were you?" I poke again and she shrugs. "Doesn't matter I'm here now."

"Doesn't matter? You left my sister at her birthday party in the middle of a panic attack!" Jesse was angry and I pulled him back. "Jesse!"

I certainly didn't want Ellie to find out about the party and that might whatsoever.

"What?" She looked up at me worried and I rolled my eyes. How can she look at me with such care after disappearing who knows where for nearly a week.

"If you bothered to stay with her-"

"Jesse please." I tug on his sleeve and he sighs.

"I'm pissed. I told you anyone but her."

"You told him!?" Her demeanor was now angry and he scoffed. "Yeah she did. That a problem?"

Neither of them gave me room to speak as the went back and fourth. "She can make her own choices she's a big girl!"

"That doesn't excuse the fact you left her!"

"Both of you just shut up. For fucks sake, I'm right here and you won't even let me speak. Im not a child!" I yelled at the top of my lungs and they both turn to look at me shocked.

"Jesse I love you but this falls on me too." My head then turns towards Ellie. "And you. We'll talk later when I feel like it you got that?"

They both stare at me without saying a word and I repeat myself. "Do you got that? Both of you."

"Uh yeah." Ellie scratches her head again and Jesse sighed. I knew he was just being the big brother and trying to protect me. He always did, but that's not what I needed right now. I didn't need a parental figure, I needed a brother.

"So um, what are we having for dinner?" Jesse is the first to break the long awkward silence. For a second I want to laugh but my irritation still lingered in the air and I sighed. "Just order pizza or something I don't know."

Truth was Ellie was the one who went out shopping for groceries most the time and since she'd been gone neither Jesse or I had stopped by the grocery store. We were surviving off cereal and sandwiches. "God you guys haven't bought food have you?"

"For fucks sake you guys are unbelievable. Come on we're going grocery shopping." She gestures for me to come with. I cringe at the thought of the two of us being alone but nonetheless I cooperate and follow her out the door.

As predicted the car ride was dead silent and I started to pick at the nail polish that had started to chip.

"So? You uh, about that night-"

"It's fine El's you don't owe me an explanation." I wanted to slap myself for even allowing myself to use her nickname. "No, I do. I shouldn't have left you. I'm Jesse mentioned you..."

"It's nothing. The situation brought back unwanted memories."

"Im sorry, for not being there. I am."

I should be angry with her but instead here I was excited. I couldn't deny it. Deep down I was elated with the fact she was back. It was like middle school when you tell yourself you're gonna show up mad and mysterious but then your friends make you laugh. I constantly had to remind myself that she didn't treat me nice. She left me, she chased after Jacklyn. That had to mean something right?

Walking trough the grocery store was even quieter than the car ride. After Ellie's apology I didn't know what to say. I didn't feel like having her poke around the subject any longer and I didn't feel like asking her where she'd been because deep down I knew. If she wasn't with Joel she surely spend the last few days with some girl. Again she chose someone else over me. Who was I kidding? This whole time I was just some girl she was fucking. I was in the same boat as the other girls I felt so badly for, and who was I to say anything? Her girlfriend? Absolutely not.

"You want anything in specific? Snacks?" Ellie tosses a bag of chips in the cart and I shake my head. "God you gotta talk to me Lo."

"Ellie, I told you I'd talk to you when I was ready. Just because I agreed to come out here with you doesn't mean I'm ready to forgive you."

"Let me get this straight, you call me over like crazy but you don't want to talk to me?" She continues to push the cart and I walk next to her.
"Well you can't just disappear without a word. That's not how this works."

"That's not how what works? Us?" Her voice was almost antagonizing. "What does that mean?"

"What I mean is you're acting like every other girl. Like we're together." She continued to walk and it was clear we were beginning to start an argument and a few people started to look our ways.

"Every other girl huh?" I dig underneath my nails my tone now unbothered. It was one thing thing knowing I didn't mean much to her but a whole other when she herself pointed it out. "You knew we weren't gonna be anything serious. I thought you'd be different."

That was a load of gaslighting bull. Unluckily for her she got the wrong bitch to try that with. All I had to do was play along. Make her think she had me wrapped around her fingers and then turn it around. Make her realize she can't tie me down. Nobody can, and to think I could've got laid on my birthday if she hadn't been there to cock block. She needed to be knocked down a peg or two and I knew exactly how.

"You know what? You right. I'm sorry. Sometimes I get a little possessive don't we all? But I really was worried. I mean you disappeared and Jesse was worried as well." I batted my eyelashes at her. "I'm just glad you're back. Sorry if I came on a bit strong."

Her eyes looked down at me hesitantly before speaking. "Just don't get attached like Jacklyn did. You see the whole lot of good it did her."

My jaw clenched tightly hearing her speak so low of her, still I played it cool. Me and Jacklyn were way different. I knew Ellie was just fucking around. Jacklyn didn't. It wasn't fair to her. As much as I wanted to yell at her for being a massive bitch I didn't.

"I hope this doesn't change anything between us." I twirl my hair around my finger and offer her a smile. She turns her face towards me with a smirk. "Not if you don't want it to change princess."

"Hmm." I hum in response and skip ahead of her. "Come on hurry up. I wanna go get some chocolate."
