Willow's pov
When I walked downstairs Ellie was leaning on her car. I chuckle to myself a little picturing her trying to look cool. When I reach the car she quickly goes to open my door.
"Thank you." I get inside the car waiting for the to her to get in the drivers seat. "I hope you're okay with going to an arcade? We could go somewhere else if you're not into that."
"No no that sounds perfect."
"Okay." She nodded her head awkwardly and put her keys in the ignition. "You uh look nice."
I couldn't help but let out a small laugh at her awkward behavior. Ellie had always been cool and collected, this was a new side of her that I was starting to enjoy.
"Thanks." I take a peek at her from the corner of my eye. She always looked good. She had no need to make an effort in order to look perfect, she simply was. Her hair was half tied up as per usual. She had on a black button down which was different from her usual flannel or T-shirt which meant she was making an effort. I should be overjoyed right now but somewhere in the back of my brain a small part of me screamed. Scared that she would once again get my hopes up.
"We're here." Her voice pulls me away from my thoughts.
"What's the first thing you're going for?" I smirk up at her and she shrugs. "We'll I'm going for basketball hoops. Bet I'll beat your ass."
"Oh yeah? You do know I played in our highs school team?" She smiled down and me and I remembered how she looked in her basketball uniform. How high school me would practically drool starting at her. "That was ages ago you grandma."
"Game on baby. Loser gets to choose dinner."
"Shouldn't it be the other way around?"
"No it's absolutely more difficult to choose where to eat. Especially considering you and how you always say."
She tried her best to mock my voice "I don't know where to eat. You choose. No I don't want that, you choose." I punch her arm playfully and she chuckles. "It's true. That's how you sound."
"Whatever."
The inside of the arcade was dark except for all the colors from all the machines the illuminated the room. We find the basketball ball hoop and swipe the card.
"You go first since you're the expert."
"Gladly." She grabs the first basketball that comes down and shoots....and misses. I snort and cover my mouth. "Hey I'm just a bit rusty."
"Mmhm." I put my hand on my chin and watch her miss a second ball but before I could laugh she picked up the speed. Ball after ball right in the hole. My mouth dropped open and it was now clear I'd lose. Still, it was pretty hot watching her shoot the balls. A small drop of sweat dropped for her chin and I was sure I looked like a hungry wolf staring at a lamb.
"Your turn." She turned to me a cocky grin on her lips. I let out a groan and walk away. "I'm not beating that."
"So where are we eating?"
"I don't have to worry about that until later." I turn my face away from hers my arms crossed and I hear her laugh. "Come on let's go play something you're good at."
"Oh let's do that one." I point at one of the zombie shooting games. "Sure."
We walk into the booth where blood curdling screams come out of the screen. "Alright you be player one."
"Here swipe the card again or you won't be in the game."
Her hand grazes mines for a few seconds as she takes the card from my hand. I watch her swipe the card and how her fingers gripped the gun in-front of her. GET IT FUCKING TOGETHER. I turn my attention to screen before me as we aim on "Start"
About an hour later we're still in the booth and have used up most of our points on the game. It was set on a island where we had to get to a certain spot in order for a rescue team to get us.
"We're so close we gotta finish."
"Where's the card?" I ask looking around the screen counting down. "I don't know I gave it to you."
"No you didn't."
"I did." I pull my phone out and turn the flashlight on. "There."
"Hurry swipe it." I quickly grab the card and swipe it to continue with three seconds left on the screen. We both let out a sigh of relief. "Alright don't die this time."
"Hey you died too."
After a while and fully running out of points we beat the game. A helicopter coming down to save us from the island. The soldiers smile at us offering us a hand.
"You made it." The man in a military get up pulled us up.
"Damn right we did." Ellie turned to look at me small smile creeping up her face. "Yeah after how many points was that? A hundred?"
"Doesn't matter we made it." Ellie's hand reached for my face pulling me close before planting a kiss on my forehead. I stared up at her dumbfounded and she chuckled.
"What? Need more?" She pulled my face again her lips coming in contact with my right cheek then my left until my whole face was covered my kissed. I giggled begging her to stop. I could imagine that if anybody saw us they'd look at us like those cringe high school couples. I was overwhelmed with joy and let my hand intertwine in her hair. Pulling her close I connect our lips.
A kiss different from all the rest. This kiss wasn't filled with lust or desire. It was gentle and caring.
"Excuse me are you two done? Me and my son have been waiting for quite a while." Some lady pops her head in and we both jump. "Uh yeah sorry."
We step out of the booth and Ellie intertwines her hand with mine. "So have you chosen where you want to eat?"
Ellie's restaurant. I think to myself before pushing the thought away. Nope. Nope. I finally got what I want and here I am having dirty thoughts. "I uh, um. I don't know."
"You never change." She laughs as we make our way out. The sun hitting our eyes was like a punch straight to the face.
"I feel like we just switched realities."
"Nerd." I tease her and she rolls her eyes. "Come on let's go get pizza."
