The past few months have been bliss and life is living. I still can't believe that this Friday I'm getting married and it's also my birthday. I haven't felt this happy in a long. When I was kidnapped I never thought I would come out alive. All I ever wanted was for my baby to be okay and now she's not just okay but she's growing up well and she's five months old.
"You're glowing." Addy said as I walked inside the kitchen. I opened the liquor cupboard and took out a bottle of wine and poured it inside a glass before taking a gulp.
"Aren't you supposed to not be drinking since you're breastfeeding?" She was sitting on a stool while scrolling on her phone. Since I'm getting married I had to come back home.
"I'm not breastfeeding for the entire week so…" I took another sip.
"I don't see myself having a baby. I can't stay away from my liquor." She said.
"Never say never Addy. Babies are a blessing and you'll just find yourself obsessing over your baby."
"I doubt."
"Are you on any contraceptives?"
"I'm abstaining."
"At this rate you're celibating." She laughed at my comment.
"I never thought I'll live to see the day you're telling me about sex. You? Asante Dlamini-Mhlongo? I expect such conversations from Angie."
Speaking of the devil, she walked inside the kitchen carrying Asenathi."Look who I found playing inside her cot?"
"You woke her up. I just put her to sleep ten minutes ago." I hate Angie for always waking Asenathi up. She's ruining her routine.
"I can't help it if your daughter is adorable."
"Go make yours." I took the baby from her and walked with her to the garden. I'm not being mean but Angie never takes care of Asenathi. She just wakes her up and when she cries she gives her to me. It's so frustrating.
As a mother it doesn't matter how much you love your kid but sometimes you just want to rest. Big up to single parents out there because raising a child by yourself is not easy. Sometimes I feel like I'm losing my mind when Asenathi refuses to sleep at night when I'm tired but at least I have Nkosinathi.
I place Asenathi on her little chair and take a book and start reading for her. She's five months yeah but she's such a good listener. I've been reading for her since she was a month old. I love reading and I'm hoping to pass my love for books to my daughter. People who read a lot learn a lot. It doesn't matter what kind of book you're reading but you'll end up learning something and it makes you extra wiser. You could learn a lot from people who read.
My phone rings and disturbs our reading session. It's Asenathi's dad.
"Hello Tata ka Ase." I answered with a smile.
"Hello Maka Ase. How are you guys? I miss you." I last saw him last week.
"We miss you too. Friday is around the corner. It's literally in two days."
"That's sound far. Una sent Ase's dress. Did it arrive?" Una is a dramatic aunt. Who the hell buy a dress for a five months old from overseas? At least my wedding dress was designed by my mom and I must say it's gorgeous.
"I'm not sure. I'm at the garden reading for your daughter."
"You're boring her."
"I'm educating her." The said daughter start raising her little arms for me to pick her up. Some people love attention.
