"Things are changing. There's no denying that." Gally insisted we had a gathering deciding what form of punishment Thomas and I would receive.
It was ultimately stupid.
Thomas and I risked our lives to save Alby and Minho. And Gallys whining like a child about it.
"First, Ben gets stung in broad daylight. And then Alby. And now our greenies, here, had took it upon themselves-" He pointed a finger at Thomas and I. "-to go into the maze. Which is a clear violation of our rules here."
"Yeah... but they saved Albys life?"
I mentally thanked him .
"Did they." Gally retaliated. "For three years, we have coexisted with these things. And now, they killed one of them."
"Technically Lilah didn't." Winston blurted. "S-she shouldn't get punished."
I listened as they talked like I wasn't even there. I wore a tired expression and didn't bother to look up. Thomas on the other hand looked down at the floor, guilty.
Gally let out a sigh. "She planned it." He paused. "If anything she's the most dangerous."
Thomas and I snapped our heads up in disbelief. The words that were coming out of Gallys mouth made me frustrated.
"What was I supposed to do? Let it kill me? Thomas or Minho?" Heated in the moment I stood up. "I'm not a coward."
Gally turned his back on me. "Why do you think she ran in the Maze? Huh?" No one spoke. "I'll tell why it was because of him." He pointed at Thomas, accusingly.
Everyone looked at Thomas. He stared between Gally and I, terribly confused. Gally towered over my figure, disgust written on his face.
"You only went in the maze to save, Thomas." He spat, I took a step back feeling his hot breath on my skin.
"Thomas or not- I would've still ran into that maze, Gally." I kept my tone stern.
He searched my eyes for something. Something he desperately wanted to know.
From the corner of my eye I felt and I saw Thomas rise to his feet. The brunette boy stepped closer to Gally and I.
"We all heard you from the glade- You were terrified. Do you regret it?" Gally asked. I was taken back by his question. I thought he would've asked me something entirely different. "Do you regret going into the maze?"
"No." I immediately said.
Gallys eyes narrowed. "You're a threat..To all of us."
No one knew what to say nor do. Gally has never acted like this before and it was starting to worry the boys.
"If you're going to be mad at someone be mad at me. I'm the one who killed it. Not, Lilah." Thomas interrupted.
"What do you suggest we do?" Newt leaned against a wooden pillar with his hands folded infront of his chest. He looked worried.
"They have to be punished." Gally finally stepped away and I exhaled deeply.
The room erupted into comments.
"Come on."
"They killed a Griever!" Gally shouted over the chatter.
"Minho." Newt called out. "You were with them. What do you think?"
I looked at Minho who stood far away from everyone. He made eye contact with Thomas and I. "I think-" Minho licked his bottom lip. "I'm all this time we've been here...no one has ever killed a griever before."
He straightened his posture. "When I took tail and ran- these dumbs shanks stayed behind to help Alby. Thomas didn't give up, not once. Even if he was scared piece of klunk.
Not to mention Lilah yelled at me several times to get my arse together. From the minute she entered that maze- She was the most calm out of all of us. You all heard her, right? I don't know the whole story of what happened to her, but from what Thomas told me-" Minho shut his mouth, he looked at me and only me. "She was willingly to risk her life for Thomas in a heartbeat- And I admire you for that."
Minho heart warming speech turned my deep frown upside down. Every part of me forced myself not cry.
"Look, I don't know if they are brave or stupid. But whatever it is, we need more of it." Minho took a long look at Thomas. "I say we make him a runner. And Lilah if she wants too-I know she likes gardening still." He added on.
"A runner? What?"
"Minho, let's not jump the gun, here."
Over the commotion Chuck started chanting 'Thomas' but no one tagged along with the curly headed boy.
I glanced over my shoulder, looking back at Thomas who was just as shocked as everyone else. He stared in deep thought.
"A runner?" I never thought about being a runner before. I always thought I would work in Track-Hoe with Zart.
"If you want to throw the newbies a parade, that's fine. Go ahead. But if there's one thing I know about the maze- it is that you do not-"
Gallys speech was interrupted by a loud noise through the glade. He instantly looked at Newt who was lost.
"What's that noise?" Thomas asked no one in particular.
