I'm a horrible person.
I could not bare to meet Newts eyes. Too ashamed in myself to look at him. He deserves better- He deserves so much more.
Finding the strength to speak, I tilted my head back, directly looking at Thomas. Ultimately, purposely avoiding Newts gaze.
"All this time, we were the ones who did this to them?" I almost whispered, speaking very faintly.
"Yes."
"W-Why would they send us up if we were with them?" Teresa questioned.
"It doesn't matter."
"-He's right," Newts hand touched his chin then dropped, "It doesn't matter. Any of it." I turnt my head, instantly making eye contact with Newt.
"The people we were before the maze, they don't even exist, anymore. These Creators took care of that." He leaned forwards and used his pointer finger to tap it against the bar, "What does matter is who we are now and what we do, right now."
I let his words sink in.
"You two went into the maze and you found a way out."
"Yeah, but if I hadn't Alby would still be alive."
"Maybe..." I looked down and opened my mouth, running my teeth along my top row of teeth, thinking hard.
"But I know that if he were here, he would be telling you the exact same thing." The tone of Newts voice turned firmer, becoming motivational, "Pick your arse up and finish what you started. Cause if we do nothing, that's means Alby died for nothing- And I can't have that."
"Ok," Thomas breathed out. In addition, I felt Thomas burning holes through my skin. I did not have to look up to know that everyone was looking at me. And when I did, I was completely right.
Although, Teresa half glanced at me, barely even looking but I still caught it. She went back to staring at the wall and decided to not say no more.
