It is Easter.
At least you think it is Easter. Your head is spinning for some reason as you try stomaching the nausea. Just as quickly as the migraine comes in, it disappears as a set of footsteps approach you. You see a girl with two-toned hair in bunny pajamas holding up a set of eggs. She smiles at you as your eyes meet.
“Happy Easter!”
Her name is…what is it again? Right, Shiori Novella.
You remember it this time as well.
As she steps closer to you, you notice the little blob of ink on top of her head. You swear you’ve seen that thing before.
“You have any plans for rabbit poop candy day?”
~~~~~
You slowly push yourself to a sitting position, groaning and rubbing your head.
“I… I’m not sure… Do I?” you respond, your memory still foggy. “I guess not?”
Shiori tilts her head, and her smile widens. She crouches down in front of you and holds out one of the patterned eggs, seemingly offering it, before bringing it back to herself and taking a bite out of it, revealing it to be all chocolate.
She finishes chewing, and makes a little gulping sound as she swallows.
“Good! Then you can come and hand these out with me!” Shiori stands up and holds out a hand to you.
“Hand them out? To whom?” you take her hand and the two of you work together to help you stand.
“To the Nyakuza! LIke Pepper! I bet they’ll love it! Cats and eggs! Makes sense, right?” she giggles to herself as she turns around and looks over her shoulder at you.
“Um… Sure, let’s go with ‘sure’,” you chuckle back and start following her.
As the day goes on, you and Shiori wander around handing out the chocolate eggs to the different members of the “Nyakuza”, whatever they are. You can’t tell if they’re people in catperson costumes, or if they’re actually cat people.
“Hm… We still haven’t found Pepper…” Shiori mutters to herself.
She’s been asking after this “Pepper” at every opportunity, but as you follow the tips from each member of the Nyakuza, it seems like you miss Pepper by just a few minutes, all the way up to an hour.
Shiori sighs, and hangs her head. She shakes her head and takes a deep breath.
“Well! I guess we have to just call it for today. You can sleep on my couch tonight, ok?” she smiles and leads you to a house that looks like a small castle. “I call it Inkwell Castle! It’s not a real castle, but it has the tower of one! I have my eating space on the first floor and my library on the second floor, it’s really comfy!” she continues excitedly.
As the two of you enter, you see a Nyakuza in the entry way, crouching on the carpet, and a certain smell makes its way into your nose.
“Pepper! Stop shitting on the floor!” Shiori shouts, and Pepper just smiles. “C’mon! We talked about this!”
Pepper chuckles and stands and leaves through the still open door.
“Sorry, I’ll take care of this, then we can make some dinner together!” Shiori sighs and smiles, exasperated.
The smell is soon replaced with the smell of cleaner. For dinner, the two of you make a spicy hotpot, and, between the food and the experience of making the food, you get the feeling that you’re ok with not remembering how you got here. It’s fun enough, and if you were having enough fun, or had something worth going back to, then you’d remember… right?
