Misaki!" Sakura's exclaimed and I could almost hear how much anxiety she was feeling with her breathless voice.

Relief instantly washes over me as Sakura runs toward me. Sasuke was in the distance with his Sharingan flared to life, ready to overpower whatever opponent is coming next.

Sakura kneeled beside me, her eyes full of concern. "What is going on?" she asked softly.

"It feels like my whole body is on fire," I gritted out, clenching my teeth to keep from screaming as the pain surged through me and my grip on the source of the agony tightened.

Sakura gasped, and I turned to follow her gaze to where my hand was gripping my shoulder tightly. Her shocked exclamation added to my rising panic.

"What is it?" I asked, my voice trembling confusion as the look in her eye was making me fear for my life, what's going on? What is it?

Sakura's words spilled forth in a rush, laced with alarm. "There's this mark. .. a mark on your shoulder!" she exclaimed.

Her words made my heart pound in my chest as I tried to digest them. A mark? On my shoulder? I couldn't understand what she was trying to say.

"What?" I whispered.

"Misaki, don't," Sakura pleaded, soft in tone, yet very urgent.

But it was getting impossible to endure. My teeth ground together against the pain; breath a shallow gasp as I tried to hold on. With Sasuke battling that woman, my consciousness began to slip away, blackness closing around me once more.

-

Only in some moments, the battle reached its peak, Sasuke was also caught up in the same fate that befell Misaki through that foul woman, Orochimaru, one of the fabled Sannin.

-

The girl who stood right before my eyes was myself, but that bitter cry had cut into me. "Who are you?" I could manage to say, though my voice felt trapped within me.

"Father and mother didn't have to die," she said, her voice sharp as sharded glass. "If you only had the strength to save them. Without power, you're helpless. Our family perished because you couldn't protect them!" Her face was scratched, skin tearing free to show inhuman, piercing yellow eyes. "You just stood there, watching, a coward."

I tried to speak in my own defense, but the words suddenly fell, choked by an unknown force. The voice I wanted to raise remained inside; it could not emerge from that mysterious barrier. With the girl still shredding off my flesh to reveal a serpentine figure inside, shivers traveled across my spine and nailed me to that dreadful moment.
