Genjutsu?

"We were lured in perfectly," Kabuto remarks. "It appears we were meticulously careful, and were made to walk around the same place in a circle."

Sasuke starts, "We're being watched."

"Just from where?" I interject.

"Probably," Kabuto shrugs. "They intend to wear down our physical strength and catch us when we're bone tired."

"So. like we are now?" I raise my brows and Kabuto nods.

"If so, then this enemy follows this strategy." Sasuke trails off.

Kabuto finishes, "Then, they'll be coming soon."

I turned around at the sense of a presence behind us to find a man in a black jumpsuit crawling out from a branch. "Found one," I pointed out.

"What do you mean, 'found one'—?" Sakura began, but her voice fell as she saw several figures emerging from the branches and the ground. Forty of them.

We all shifted into defensive positions, bracing ourselves for their attack from these clones—or whatever they were.

"Ah, well, Naruto, they're here," Sasuke said with a knowing smirk.

In a tone just as knowing, Naruto replied, "This is the perfect handicap."

"It's quite a number. Furthermore, they're clones?" Kabuto said, puzzled.

One of them spoke menacingly, "Cornered rats."

"Shut up!" Naruto's voice thundered as he swung a punch at the clone who had spoken, but his blow went clear through as if the guy was made of mud or thick water.

Reacting quickly, Sasuke leaped in and threw a shuriken at the arm of the clone before he could stab Naruto with a Kunai.

Meanwhile, I had activated my Sharingan to find out what exactly we were up against. I turned around to relate this to Sasuke, but he was already standing there, peering at nothingness, his mark blazing a bright orange and yellow. Kabuto was closer to Sasuke, and he was quick to react to cover him from the approaching Kunai.

Sasuke stumbled back to his feet. The mark on his shoulder much larger. I turned to help him, but Sakura was already there, supporting him until he regained his balance.

"Surrender your scroll!" the clones chorused as they advanced on us threateningly.

"Kabuto was hurt so these guys are real shadow clones, right?" Naruto asked.

"Shadow clones are supposed to disappear, these ones don't—they're something else," I told Naruto, my voice laced with urgency.

The clones were closer now, and as they advanced I felt someone's back hit against mine, and I stiffened momentarily. Turning around, I found Naruto there, mirroring my surprise.
