My eyes flickered open, groggy, but slowly coming into focus. I was being held by someone—Sasuke. His eyes did not rest on mine, however; they were on something far away. Following his gaze, my eyes widened as I saw a creature with a massive tail. Gaara had transformed, showing his true self, just like Naruto and the Nine-Tails.
Sand suddenly began to envelop Naruto, and both Sasuke and I tensed. We were in a paralyzed position and couldn't move. Helplessness gripped me as I watched Naruto being swallowed by the sand.
"Naruto!" Sasuke exclaimed as he tried to help me stand. "Darn! Can't get up!!"
"I can't believe I was forced to show myself, but it's all over now," the three-tails hummed, its voice rumbling with dark satisfaction.
A loud voice then interrupted the din—Naruto's—and in the next moment, a giant toad appeared, rivaling the size of the three-tails. It held a pipe in its mouth and was blowing out smoke languidly. I could not say a word as the toad appeared before my eyes; the scene gave me hope.
Naruto is so strong; he must have trained without end to summon something this big.
"I need to help," I grunted, slowly regaining my strength in my limbs.
I stumbled to my feet, but the weight was more than my legs could bear, and I dropped onto my knees; the coarse bark dug painfully into my skin.
In front of me, the Giant Toad and the Tailed Beast clashed on an elemental level as water and wind jutsu were exchanged. Just as I was summoning the snakes, something amazing happened. The toad changed form to resemble the fearful Nine-Tails.
"A fox?!" Sasuke exclaimed in confusion.
He still doesn't know. Sasuke still doesn't know that the Nine-Tails is inside Naruto.
This time, he was fiercer than ever; Naruto struck and made a strong and clear blow. The earth quaked, and the air cracked, like it was responding to the attack.
"Did he win?" Sasuke mumbled, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"I think so," I breathed, not having spoken loud enough, and watched further as hope and relief surged through me.
Gaara and Naruto crashed to the ground, which had been transformed from a forest of trees and bushes into a plain of smooth dirt, testimony to their ferocious battle. This was it, as Sasuke and I watched, waiting breathlessly for these two furious combatants to enter one final move. They charged at each other, fists raised, ready for the killing blow.
Naruto's punch contacted with Gaara's face as the blood spurged out of his face. Both fighters collapsed to the ground as their bodies were too exhausted to do anything else.
