『 Fights and time 』

Naruto came back with Lady Tsunade, as Jiraiya had foretold. Her skills worked wonders, and Sasuke healed and awoke to a tearful reunion with Sakura. But in that moment of relief and rejoicing, came that unsettling moment that haunted me a month before.

"May I come in?" The razor-sharp line of Lady Tsunade's voice cut clear through the air as she advanced into the room without waiting for an answer.

"Of course," Sakura replied, a note of surprise in her tone.

When the light fell on Lady Tsunade's light blonde locks, I could see her eyes widen the second they locked with mine. "Hanami?" she muttered, confusion lining her tone.

"Sorry? What did you say?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant though really my heart was racing in my chest.

"I didn't say anything," she said, her face quickly improving on the slip.

The name 'Hanami' had become a haunting refrain, first whispered by Orochimaru and now echoed by Lady Tsunade. What did they see in me? My abilities, my characteristics—could they really be that reminiscent of this mysterious guy? And what did it mean for me, a member of the Uchiha clan, to be so linked with someone presumably from another lineage?

Orochimaru must have counted on something within me. The bonds were too persistent for coincidence. But reincarnation? Could that truly bridge a chasm separating two radically different tribes? Just who was Hanami, anyway?

Tsunade's miracle revival techniques had Kakashi back on his feet, but in Lee's case, the healing skills eluded her. I should have felt a pang of shock at the news, but I didn't really care about Lee's fate. He wasn't important enough to have me feel that way, since my vision had shrunk only to those major influences that impacted my life.

This village is very dear to all the villagers, and these relationships are dear to me, but mine has only a few people whom I really care for: Sakura, Sasuke, Naruto, and, of course, Kakashi. Much as I hadn't forgiven Kakashi for always favoring Sasuke, it was finally my turn with him.

The atmosphere was heavy with tension. Sasuke's encounter with Itachi had boosted his hatred and desire for vengeance. Mine was a fight against something different. What Itachi had done didn't correspond to the brother I remembered, so there must have been something more to his cruelty. I just refused to believe that Itachi had become this monster of his own will.

Now, Sakura and I were sitting beside Sasuke's bed. It was silent in the room as he simply stared out the window, lost in thought. On Sakura's face was anxiety, though each glance toward him told it all. I was calm, for I felt Sasuke had waited, waited for a person who would understand his pain, one who shared that same bond with Itachi as he did. That person was Naruto.
