Joao's POV

I walk into a cafe and see Tabi sitting at a table zoned out so I walk up to her, "Tabi."

"Joao, what are you doing here?" She asks.

"I'm here to talk to you," I tell her taking a seat opposite her.

"please don't, I don't need to be shouted at I know you hate me," she says. She already looks shit I'm not gonna lecture her.

I shake my head, "I don't hate you, Tabi."

"you don't?" That's the bare minimum. I have to understand what happened frst.

"no, you left for almost a month and you won't tell us why, but they should understand that there's a reason, why you won't say anything and they should try to understand." I tell her.

Her eyes widen, "oh wow I didn't expect that."

"I'm sorry for him," I apologize on their behalf because I feel bad for her.

"you don't have to be. They have every right to be mad at me," she plays with her fingers.

"where did you go?" I ask wanting to understand everything.

"I went back to Bajamar, my ex was trying kill me here," she explains.

"what?" I didn't expect that to be what she says.

"yeah but if I told anyone you guys would get hurt to he threatened me so many times so I just ran away, and my dad died and my brother went to jail so I went to support my mum," she starts tearing up.

"it's okay don't cry come here," I hug her.

"I'm so sorry to hear all of this happened," I knew she was going through a bit but I was not expecting to hear this. This is why Pedri should've just listened to her.

"it's okay I guess," she shrugs her shoulders.

"but why won't you tell him?" I ask, it seemed easy enough for her to say so why not tell Pedri when he first asked.

"if I tell anyone my ex is gonna kill me, he'll kill them too," she explains looking up at me.

"so you want me dead," I joke trying to lighten the mood.

She giggles, "of course not it's just I need to talk to someone, and my dad dying no one would understand but Pedri." I was gonna ask but its obviously really personal if only Pedri would understand, "and I'm just not comfortable telling people, my brother went to jail. Then they would think he's a bad person and he's not he's the best brother I could ask for."

"why did he go to jail?" I ask,

"he stole a can of beans from the shop, but it was because they were running low on money because of the funeral he couldn't afford it." This makes her cry harder. "they should have told me I would have given them money, I can't believe it."

I didn't know what to say anymore, I mean what am I supposed to say to that it's gonna be okay because she knows it's not, "it's not too late, you could send them money."

"I just don't know what to do now. Everyone hates me and it feels like I have nothing to live for anymore." I can't just sit here and let her think like this.

"Tabi look at me." She looks up into my eyes. "The best thing to do is tell Pedri about this, I'm glad you confided in me but I can't do anything with this. You've known Pedri since birth, tell him. He'll know what to do."

She gives me a small smile, "you're right, thank you."

"it's okay, what are friends for?" I give her a smile back.

"I'm gonna go now," she says.

"yeah okay bye," I leave and she walks back home.
