"My patience is waning; is this entertaining?"
-Bones, Imagine Dragons
"It's too nice of a day for so much craziness to be happening."
Miles kicked his feet lazily as he sat on the edge of his apartment roof with Ganke, a thin smile forming on his lips as he pondered on Ganke's observation. "It is really nice out... I think it's the first time in weeks that we've had clear skies."
Any second now, Miles was going to be getting a call from his dad... and it would be time to show out for the city of New York in a way it had never seen before. He was dressed for the occasion-wearing his black and red spider suit and a puffy jacket over his shoulders. Even though it was sunny out, that didn't mean it wasn't horribly frigid today. Miles slipped one hand into his jacket pocket, making sure his mask was still there to put on later.
Upon feeling the fabric of his mask, Miles pulled his hand back out and held onto the ledge he was sitting on. He looked at Ganke out of the corner of his eye and noticed that his friend was on his phone. Again.
Uh oh... looks like somebody's thinking about Miss Watson...
Miles smirked at his friend, using his knee to nudge Ganke. "Hey," He spoke, biting back a laugh as Ganke flinched and looked up. "Whatcha looking at?"
"Oh, uh-" Ganke looked back at his phone, flicking his thumb a few times to scroll away from whatever he'd been looking at. "-MJ sent me a little demo for our channel's intro music." He told Miles. "You remember that she wanted to do that, right?"
"Uh-huh." Miles nodded, his voice equal parts knowing and teasing. "And I remember talking about why she might be so interested in doing that as well-"
"Sure, sure!! But seriously, listen." Ganke said, holding his phone over and turning up the volume. Miles was actually surprised by what he heard-even though he knew MJ had been in a rock band with Gwen and Felicia, her bubbly personality had led him to assume that this demo would be a more pop-sounding tune. But no... MJ had cranked up the grit and overdrive for this one, piecing together a heavier-sounding melody that was going to catch attention whenever people clicked on their YouTube videos.
Once the demo was over, Miles whistled. "Whoa, caught me off-guard. That's actually cool-sounding-"
"I mean, duh, it's cool-sounding!" Ganke said, pulling his phone back and scrolling down to what he'd been looking at earlier. "A professional musician wrote it, it was always going to be awesome."
"Alright there, loverboy..." Miles spoke up, making Ganke groan in frustration. "...I know you've got it bad for MJ and all, but 'professional musician' is a lot of credit for a girl that played in a high school garage band."
Ganke raised an eyebrow. "You know, the girl you're with now was in the same high school garage band." He reminded Miles. "You think that you'd get away with telling her that?"
"Good point." Miles replied. After that deep moment he'd shared with Gwen the other day, just the reference to her that Ganke made was enough to get his stomach doing flips. His cheek heated up from the memory of where her lips had met his skin, further intensifying the warmth in his core.
The two cracked smiles at each other, and Miles watched as Ganke went back to looking at the text conversations he'd shared with MJ.
"But really..." He spoke again, this time having some seriousness in his tone. "...How come you haven't asked her out yet?"
