Nothing made Mingi feel both relieved and happy than seeing Yunho finally opening his pair of eyelids.
And Yunho, found Mingi holding his hand as he opened his eyes for the first time. And he found himself in a white room, similar to the last time he was under the influence of anesthesia in the emergency room. Now he had been transferred to the ward.
"Hey, you're awake, champ," Mingi said to Yunho. Sporting a smile that didn't mean so much.
"Mama, papa." Yunho uttered softly with his pale, dry lips. He lost color there.
"Yes, I've called them. They're on their way now. Just wait, they'll be here soon." Mingi stroked Yunho's temple with his thumb. Yunho, who had just woken up, wanted to go back to sleep.
But no, he had slept too long. So he would rise now. Mingi helped him sit up slowly and leaned Yunho's back against the headboard obstructed by thick pillows. Yunho winced feeling pain in his lower abdomen, so he held onto it as his thin lips let out a weak exhale.
Mingi held Yunho's hand, "Don't touch it, it's still wet," the sentence came out simultaneously with Yunho's astonishment, feeling an emptiness in his stomach's volume that wasn't as full as before. Suddenly panic brought his breath racing.
"Junghwan?! MY SON?!"
"Yunho, calm down, take a breath."
Yunho lifted his hospital pajamas and lowered his pants slightly. He could see the stitches there, which made him know what happened. Which made him want to run to the window and open it because the air suddenly felt tight in his chest.
He felt breathless when he knew half of his soul was gone, snatched away by cruel fate.
For God's sake, he had wanted this child for so long. Very long, long before he and Mingi made their sacred vow. He and Mingi had been struggling for two years to bring Junghwan into the world, and after the other hoped-for life finally arrived, he and Mingi had to lose it.
Even before they had the chance to meet him. The image of him holding the baby in his arms vanished already.
Ignoring the tears falling and flowing, Yunho reached for Mingi's hand and held it. "Forgive me, Mingi."
"Yunho..." Mingi looked into his spouse's clear eyes with concern. Why was Yunho apologizing? Yunho had been taking good care of their fetus all this time. Providing warmth, attention, and love, in his womb. So why did he apologize?
And as if he could read Mingi's mind, Yunho continued, "I'm truly sorry, for not being able to take care of Junghwan well until losing him, I... I..." Mingi wiped Yunho's tears away, Yunho immediately kissed Mingi's hand that was in his grip. Feeling very guilty for taking away the life of their beloved baby. Hoping Mingi would forgive him.
"Don't apologize, honey, it's not your fault, almost every single time I watched how you took care of your pregnancy so well and carefully. You're not to blame."
"Yes, Mr. Jung. You're not to blame. I am."
The couple turned to the source of the voice at the door. It was Gunhak. With a bouquet of flowers in his hand. This morning, Mingi informed the head of the communication division that Yunho would be absent from work for today.
The man certainly asked for the reason, because he wouldn't allow anyone to be absent without a clear reason. So finally, Mingi explained what happened. And here Kim Gunhak is now.
This boss didn't inform San and Hongjoong about it because the two close friends of Yunho and Mingi had a lot of work to do. If Gunhak told them, they would lose focus or even ask their boss to allow them to visit Yunho now.
So finally, the man kept this information to himself. And let San and Hongjoong send dozens of chat messages and phone calls to Yunho and Mingi. Because they were so worried.
It was the same as making them lose concentration.
Gunhak walked into the room deeper, blending into the gloomy atmosphere. To get a closer look at one of his subordinates. The day before, he saw Yunho looking healthy, with clear, shining round eyes, and colored lips.
Just yesterday he ordered Yunho this and that. Many things. A lot of work. Now Yunho was lying weakly on the small hospital bed. With eyes dimmed, and pale lips.
The boss placed his bouquet of flowers on the nightstand. Mingi stood up, giving space to him who seemed to need to talk to Yunho. Especially after hearing him admit that it was his fault. Sentences and guilt on his face that Mingi didn't understand. So Mingi just stood watching from a few steps behind him.
Sitting down, Gunhak held Yunho's hand. Which made Yunho surprised by it.
"It's all my fault. I should have known that I shouldn't make a pregnant person tired," he tightened his grip, "Please forgive me, Jung Yunho."
And Yunho, he really wanted to scream that it was all this man's fault. But he respected his boss very much. And he knew Gunhak didn't intend to make him tired on purpose. But he also didn't want to forgive this man because it felt so hard for him.
He regretted losing Junghwan so much. So he just kept silent. Keeping his mouth shut because he didn't know what the best thing to say. Afraid of speaking wrongly.
Seeing Yunho showing discomfort, Gunhak loosened his grip. Even eventually releasing it. And sighed tiredly. He was made tired by the heavy mandate as a superior, and waiting for Yunho to forgive him made him even more tired.
"Boss..."
That's it. Yunho really had no idea what to say to answer Gunhak's apology.
