The morning after the bar I woke up and my mind was reeling with a song idea that I had to sit down and think about. Usually when I had a stroke of writing genius in LA I would go to my studio, curl up on the couch and just write away. Here in Boston, I could do the same. Mom and dad never used their basement so after a few years I had a small studio put down in their basement and it was soundproofed. They always knew I was down there when the light above the door was on saying 'Work in Progress' and they wouldn't bug me. I was jotting down some notes and lines I was thinking about when my cellphone beside me rang.
I had put in a call to my manager to let him know I was writing so I knew it was probably him.
"Hey." I answered on speaker phone not even looking at who it was.
"All I get is a hey?! Not oh my god Chad! Not I'm such a bad friend for not calling you in forever!?" I laughed as he overacted.
"Chad?! Oh my god, it's you! I've been a terrible friend." I overacted right back. This drove us both into a fit of laughter.
"Wow first you don't call, then you mock me. It's hurtful." He said and I just rolled my eyes.
"I'm sorry, blame my mood on my vacation."
"Yeah, I saw the Jimmy Fallon appearance, one of the main reasons I'm calling, you okay?" Chad asked and I smiled.
Chad Michael Murray and I dated for two and half years from the night of the party when we met. We were on the fast track to a ring and wedding. It felt right but not that right with him. We loved each other but he was offered his role on 'One Tree Hill' and was moving down south. I was in LA and was making an album and going on a tour soon after that and we just knew the long distance and the traveling was going to make it difficult. We made it for 2 months, but it got too hard. I flew to Wilmington, and we talked. We decided a breakup was the best but since we were adults about it we stayed best friends and have been friends since.
With being together like we were, I was very apprehensive about being intimate with him and soon I came clean to him as to why. He knew about the whole situation with Chris and what he did to me. He was understanding and we moved at my pace, and he always protected me if we were somewhere and Chris was around, he made sure to steer us both clear of him.
"I mean I was able to steer clear from him after the show, I rushed out and didn't have to see him...then." I said.
"What do you mean then?" Chad asked.
"Well, I came home for vacation. I missed mom and dad, and I didn't want to go on a tropical vacation or anything by myself, so I just came home. Well, a shocker that Chris is on break, and he is home as well. We ran into each other at the store the other day..." I trailed off.
"How did that go?" Chad asked.
"I may have hit him with a loaf of bread..."
"Frankie!" Chad hysterically laughed.
"It was the only weapon I had!" I laughed.
"Have you seen him since?" Chad asked.
"Last night. We had the same group of friends growing up and since Chris and I were finally back in town they all wanted to get together. We went to the local bar, the house band asked me to get up and sing so I did but then Chris and I had a small argument and I left." I said. Chad sighed.
"And let me guess, you have locked yourself in the recording studio and are writing a song?" Chad asked.
"You know me so well." I chuckled.
"Anything good yet?" Chad asked.
"Meh...not really. I let management know something may happen but I'm not sure. I mean if I want to record something I have to get a band in here to do something and I don't want to call my guys here." I said.
"What about that house band you played with? You think they would help?" Chad asked.
"I mean they probably would, but I feel so comfortable with my band." I said and he laughed.
"Just call the band and meet for one day in LA when you get back."
"What are you up to at this moment? You busy?" I asked.
"Nope, on a break from filming and just down south still, why?" Chad asked.
"Would you hate it if I left Boston and came to hide out with you for a few more weeks? I don't need to go out or be seen I just don't want to run into Chris anymore..." I said.
"Frankie, haven't I always protected you from having to be around him?" Chad asked and I smiled.
"You have." I said.
"So why don't you finish your song, get it recorded and then get your ass down here to Wilmington and we spend some time together." Chad said and I got super excited.
"Perfect, I will let you know travel arrangements soon." I said.
"Looking forward to it." Chad said.
"See you soon." I said and hung up.
I looked at the random notes I had in my notebook and started piecing them all together. I even got to pair it with some old notes I wrote down and everything was working out perfectly. Once I had lyrics done, I sent out a text out a group chat to the band saying I wanted to meet for one day in LA to record a song. None of them were surprised I had written a song and was ready to record it.
