The dried rustling leaves had fallen out of the trees and white foam of snow covered all the trees in the vicinity. The chill wind haunted the evening, sending shivers down passers by spines. The two feet height snow made people walk over them, as though they were walking over a field of muddy paddy. But the beautiful glow when the sun retires, decorates the bed of snow as though the snow had been caught on fire and even though the season of winter made people hate the cold, the beauty of the cycle of the sun, is worth it all.
It had been almost two months since Skylar had been rescued from the place where she had been kidnapped. It was two months since she had even gone to school, but she did not care about it anymore. Just because she cannot avoid the final trimester exams, she had sat for it, but she did not have hopes that it would give her good results. Even though from the bottom of her heart she knew that results did not matter for her anymore, she did not know how her father would react if he came to know that she had not been performing well in her studies.
"Are you sure this is right, Sky?" Reese asked, peeping over Skylar's shoulder. Skylar pushed her glasses up her nose and stared at her notebook.
They were in the library once more, and it was where they had spent most of the time ever since Skylar was brought back. All three of them; Skylar, Ed and Reese, occasionally joined by Darla, had been trying to find more and more information regarding the world that they had not known until recently, except for Skylar who was already a part of it. Skylar knew that even though most would prefer to go into action at once, and then later face the consequences, she did not want to try her luck anymore. She had received enough treatment and memory to last her for a lifetime and she did not want to test the grounds anymore. Even though however positive Skylar tried to be, from the bottom of her heart she knew that a major reason for her to get kidnapped, all those days ago, had been because she had underestimated the power of her enemy. So, not wishing to make the same mistake twice, she had taken matters into her own hands, and had been gathering each and every data and information that would come in handy for her.
Skylar turned towards Reese and nodded.
"I am positive about this Ree." she mumbled absentmindedly. "There could not be any other way." she said, patting her hair down the side.
Reese looked doubtful at her, and stared at Skylar's note book once more. In the midst of all the sketches that were written by Skylar, she had marked five words in her neat letters and had highlighted them, the words that were important for her to conquer the enemy and overcome her burdens.
"Love, light, power, fire and purity." Darla read aloud, as she looked at Skylar and Reese looking at each other. She had joined their 'search for information', as Jacob calls it, and surprisingly had been quite a support as she had been too eager to find more, and that eagerness had been an added advantage for Skylar.
"Erm," Ed rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I think Sky's right." he said, turning towards Reese as she gave him a glare that would have burned him if she had powers that were as almost as close to Skylar's. Ed chuckled and shook his head, staring down.
"I think she is right Ree." he said once more, and pulled out a large book from the middle of the table. From all the papers and note books that were strewn across the table, it was even surprising to think how such a large book was hidden in its midst.
Ed turned a few pages, and came to the exact page he had marked by folding the corner. "Listen to this." he said, and all three girls leaned in closer to hear more about it.
"Having known to have the largest number of children, the first Night Shadow in the world had been Irene and the betrayal of her human husband had been the history behind the world that was unknown to many." he paused and looked up at Skylar. She nodded at him to go on.
