Devil Says 'H!'

Chapter 13

"Night Shadow..." Skylar said, turning towards Ed. "Have you ever heard that word somewhere?" she asked. Ed shook his head no.

"Did I mention it the other day, when I was revealing my secret?" she asked, and Ed shook his head again.

"Hmm..." Skylar thought. "What is it?" she asked herself. Ed turned towards Skylar. He saw how her eyebrows were scrunched up in confusion.

"Sky," he called her. Skylar turned towards him. "Why don't we read and find out more about it?" he asked, and Skylar nodded slowly.

"Yeah," she said. "Yeah. I think we should." She quickly opened the large heavy book again, and turned the pages in a hurry. Again she found herself staring at the illustration, and Ed tapped her hands to point at a paragraph in the page.

Having been known to be found only at night, Night Shadows have proved to be the most evil of the beings around us. It is thought that Night Shadows cannot be tamed, and that they prey on every other creature who prowls around the night. Night Shadows have a taste for flesh, and they don't prey on humans or animals. Instead, they prefer the flesh of young devils and demons. Night Shadows always prefer to challenge their prey, and only then, they will dine on it. After the prey had fought its best to escape this evil being, Night Shadows prey on them, starting with tearing the stomach, and then dining on its insides.

Ed looked at Skylar. She was still reading, and after she had finished, she turned towards Ed, looking disgusted.

"It's horrible." Ed said slowly, as Skylar nodded, agreeing with him. She turned for the previous page and started reading from the top.

Night Shadows are one of the most dangerous creatures that have been known to walk on earth. They are easily identifiable due to their canine teeth, which reaches their chin. They don't breed for their next group, but the population grows day by day. The reason behind this is still unknown. Night Shadows are one of the most dangerous creatures to ever get crossed with. During the morning hours, they lead the day, planning about their next victim. And when night comes, they hunt the victim down, and have it as their prey.

The most dangerous creature to ever walk on earth, came into origin, in the late sixteenth century. History states that there had been a war between devils, demons and humans. It is stated that, to win the war and make them dominate the earth, humans had started a ritual where they gain more power, by sacrificing mighty animals. One such day, not knowing which animal to sacrifice, two humans have killed a wolf and a lion. This had made their souls fly out of their body, and learning that they had been sacrificed by humans, the two animals had grown angry, and had started to act wildly with the two humans who had performed the ritual. This anger had stroked when the lion's soul went inside one, and the wolf's soul had gone inside the other. Then, the two of the humans had started fighting for dominance, which had resulted in the lion killing the wolf. At long last, the man who had the lion's soul, had preyed on the wolf and surprisingly, the lion had received some wolfish characteristics. Since then, this animal like humans had preyed on other animals, and gained their powers as well. Later, this animal had made other humans also gain the same level of powers by performing a ritual around a fire. So, before long, there were thousands of these kinds of beings. They started prowling at night, and they did not walk out in light, for fear of knowing that their prey would be able to identify them. So, the name Night Shadow was given to them.

The Night Shadows later led the war to power, and that too in a very brutal manner. By the end of the war, most devils and demons were destroyed. Since then, the Night Shadows have ruled the world. They never prayed on humans and always dined on devils and demons only.

Skylar shuddered. She did not want to think about what would be her fate if she ever came across a Night Shadow. She stared at Ed, as he turned a few more pages. Skylar too read the pages and learnt a lot about this creature.
