A/N - My man looks so cutie here xx
Tom holds a firm grip on the steering wheel, his gaze cold as he stares at the road ahead of us. We sit in silence, the only sound being the low hum of the engine. I cast a sidelong glance at him, feeling a mix of curiosity and apprehension bubble within me.
Despite the instinctive urge to be gripped by fear, for some reason I find myself inexplicably calm. I can't wrap my mind around it—My ability to trust him despite knowing what kind of person he is and what he's capable of.
I decide to speak up and break the silence. "Where are we going?" I ask.
"Back to my house." His gaze remains fixed ahead of him, his jaw clenching slightly.
His terse reply does nothing to ease the lingering curiosity gnawing at me, prompting a frustrated sigh to escape from my lips. The idea of returning to Tom's extravagant home so soon fills me with an unfamiliar emotion I can't name, my mind circling back to what occured between us the last time I was there.
I turn my body to face him and he throws me a brief glance. "Tom-- I'm just kind of confused," I start. "You said you wanted to talk, but so far you've just sat there in silence--"
He drags a tired hand down his face with a sigh, cutting me off. I furrow my brows, the gesture spiking anger in me. But before I have a chance to reply, he speaks up.
"I've.. I've been thinking on what we talked about last night," he says, the words wrapping around me and leaving me momentarily speechless as stare at him with widened eyes. Inside, a flicker of hope ignites, but I quickly suppress it, not wanting myself to become too optimistic.
"And..?" I urge, my heart beating wildly in my chest.
"I'll do it."
I shake my head slightly, unsure if I had heard him right. "You'll what?"
"I'm gonna kill the bastard," Tom states flatly. Though, his expression is determined as his hand sits firmly on the steering wheel, his veins becoming more prominent as he grips it tighter.
I sit in silence for a moment as I register his words, trying to ignore how attractive he looks as he drives.
"But why? It hasn't even been a few hours since we last talked about this and you were so set on not helping me. Now you suddenly want to kill him? I don't understan--"
"I don't owe you an explanation. Isn't it enough that I want to help you?" He snaps harshly.
I'm taken aback by his tone and I narrow my eyes at him, not appreciating how he's talking to me.
"You do owe me an explanation, Tom!" I fire back. "I'm in this just as much as you are and if I'm gonna be working with you to kill the guy then I think I deserve to know what your motive is." My voice carries the weight of my anger as I speak.
I'm cut off as Tom's fist abruptly collides with the steering wheel. The sound splits through the silence of the car, causing me to flinch away from him.
"Don't-- Don't push me," He grits out, his words a warning.
I bite my tongue, forcing myself to remain silent, the logical side of my brain telling me that it's the safer option, that it will avoid him lashing out on me anymore. An unsettling silence begins to form and I cross my arms over my chest angrily and look out the car window, frustrated that I'm never able to win with him.
Tom speaks up once more after releasing a deep breath. "Look, I didn't have to do this okay? If you don't want to be involved that's more than fine by me. I'll turn this car around--"
