September 30th 11:32am
LOCATION: Spencer Memorial Hospital

"Where the hell did you find that?" Carlos asked Natasha as she poured whiskey into three empty glasses,
She figured after the few days they'd all had- they could do with something to take the edge off-
"I found it in one of the hospital staff lockers" she was sure that the locker owner wouldn't be needing it anymore.
She passed the other glasses to Tyrell and Carlos,
"Well, I've never turned down a free drink before" Tyrell smirked,
"Cheers" Carlos raised his glass before downing it in one go
"За здоровье!" Natasha cheers in her native Russian, both Tyrell and Carlos stared at her-
"You're Russian?" Tyrell asked as Natasha went about refilling all the empty glasses.
Carlos had suspected that the Avenger was Russian when she mentioned the KGB, but when her accent slipped, he was now sure
"Yes, the last name didn't give it away?" she laughed-
"I'm surprised that Nikolai or Mikhail didn't tell you" she smirked as the two (ex) U.B.C.S officers shared a look-
"Well Nikolai said -uh" Tyrell stopped mid-sentence as Carlos silently shook his head at Tyrell, now she was curious.
"What did he say? It's fine, I've heard it all before" she grinned,
"Well- he said that you were a liar, a bitch and a... traitorous whore" Natasha laughed as Tyrell cringed and Carlos looked ready to run for cover-
"Hmm- not the best commendation that I've ever been given -but not the worst either"
Black Widow kept most of her thoughts on the U.B.C.S traitor secret for now, of course she planned on killing him when she got the chance- but she wanted answers more than anything.
Mikhail had already told her that Colonel Sergie Vladimir had founded the U.B.C.S as well as Umbrella's Internal Espionage Unit- according to Mikhail, Nikolai had a brief dealing with Umbrella's Internal Espionage Unit,
She would be a fool if she didn't consider that the two Russians knew each other, for all she guessed Nikolai could be doing Vladimir's dirty work, it was a theory that made the most sense to her with the information she had at the moment.
"So, I'd like to assume that both of you are clearing your hands of Umbrella" Natasha drank back the whisky in her glass as Carlos and Tyrell nodded,
"I still can't believe it" Tyrell said, but Natasha had shown him the damning evidence from Dr Bard's office-
"Of course, it's just... I feel so cheated" Carlos felt many things in regards to Umbrella and Natasha understood every emotion he was feeling completely,
She had been in a similar situation when she had found out about S.H.I.E.L.D being infiltrated by Hydra, she was thankful that she had Steve to lean on in her desolation.
"Hey trust me, I completely understand. The way I see it you've both got a decision to make, you can either sit around feeling sorry for yourself or- you can do something about it"
Natasha had sometimes been accused of being too blunt to the point of where it could be misconstrued as cruel, but Natasha hadn't been raised to be soft.
"What exactly are you suggesting?" Tyrell asked as he placed his empty glass on the table,
Natasha refilled everyone's glasses again although she didn't want to ply either of them with too much alcohol to the point of them being incapacitated, she on the other hand had a ridiculously high tolerance.
"Clearly Umbrella will go to lengths to cover up what's happened here. They'll want all of it destroyed- but if we escape with the vaccine then we can tell the world the truth and we'll have the evidence to back it up"
Hero speeches weren't exactly her thing,
She left that kind of thing to the likes of Steve Rogers, but she was adamant about bringing Umbrella to their knees, fortunately she had the resources and connections to make such a thing happen,
"I would blow Umbrella into the ground if I could" Carlos insisted-
"Of course that goes without saying, but what about after. Ms Romanoff. The U.B.C.S was a second chance for all of us, without it I would be in prison maybe even dead, same goes for Carlos" Tyrell tells her.
Natasha wasn't under any illusion that Umbrella had hired its soldiers because of their sincerity or good intentions,
She had seen information that hinted at what type of men Umbrella hired for its private military, the pharmaceutical company wanted killers not heroes.
Carlos sadly nodded if he hadn't been picked up by an Umbrella scout a few years ago... somehow, he had found himself doing mercenary work for a South American communist guerrilla group, he was adept at getting things they needed- especially weapons.
However, all that had gone straight to hell the moment the Government forces wiped out the organisation- he would be locked up for the remainder of his life, or even dead if a U.B.C.S scout hadn't extracted him from the local authorities,
So of course when they offered him work as a 'Weapons Procurer' for their Delta Platoon how could he not say yes to such an opportunity- now he wished that the Government Authorities had killed him too.
"You know- S.H.I.E.L.D could do with men like you, they're well known for providing second chances"
Natasha knew that one good conversation with Director Hill would secure the both of them with a fresh start, working for the good guys this time.
After the reduction of agents when she and Cap blew Hydra's plans out of the sky, the newly formed Intelligence agency could do with all the good agents it could get,
"Is that how you got your second chance?" Carlos asked, after she had revealed to him that she had once worked as an assassin he wondered how she'd made the leap from a spy to an Avenger-
"Yeah, I owe a lot to some of the people that work there. Trust me I've done a lot worse than probably the both of you put together".
It was true, despite the fact that she had no indication to either of their actions that led them to U.B.C.S, it was sadly true.
"What kind of worse?" Tyrell asked- unlike Carlos he wasn't over enamoured with the Avengers, they were flawed and made mistakes, the kind of mistakes that destroyed lives, he remembered the headlines after the Destruction of Sokovia.
Black Widow responded to Tyrell with a small smile- she appreciated the directness "I'm a former KGB Assassin, I'm sure your imagination is capable of filling the blanks" it was such a vague answer- given that they would need to trust her if they wanted to part from Umbrella Tyrell found her cryptic nonsense tiring
"Hm... what made S.H.I.E.LD decide that a KGB assassin was worth a second chance?" Tyrell asked in a way that made Carlos feel like he was being a bit unfair, the Black Widow had willingly given them her trust despite knowing that they were Umbrella "Hey man" Carlos whispered as a warning
Natasha didn't care- these were the type of questions that she'd grown very accustomed to answering, but the answers weren't always easy.
She filled her own glass as she'd finished before either of the soldiers "I don't know" she suddenly said,
"I wouldn't have given me another chance- it was all down to Clint really. S.H.I.E.L.D sent Agent Barton to kill me, but he made another call" Clint often told her that the call he'd made to take her to S.H.I.E.L.D rather than kill her had been one of the best calls of his life- sometimes she wished that she could know what he saw in her.
"Damn" Tyrell whispered as he placed his now empty glass on the table,
"I once asked him why he disobeyed his orders and brought me over- he told me that everyone deserves a second chance and to not waste it" she sighed- fuck she missed that asshole right now, she missed all her friends.
"As far as I'm concerned Carlos, Tyrell- this will officially be your second chance, I trust you won't waste it" she smirked at the two former U.B.C.S officers.
Natasha goes about filling up everyone's empty glasses when she hears something in her ear, there was a sharp crackle as transmission attempted to force its way through, it was almost unintelligible, but it sounded like her name.
Natasha sighed and pressed her earpiece harder into her ear as she attempted to communicate back, although she wasn't going to get anyone's hopes up,
"Ro-**a-ooff**" she shot up to her feet, she just knew that she'd heard her name that time and she could have sworn that she recognised the inaudible voice-
"Director Hill, Maria?" Carlos and Tyrell shared an anxious look, had someone from the outside world managed to make contact with the Black Widow? Such a miracle would be a blessing right about now.
However, Natasha knew that Director Hill would never be the type to give up, especially on a friend- if anyone could help them now surly it would be her,
"Shit the signal" Natasha held her breath as she adjusted the settings on her Stingers to see if she could communicate through a well-known S.H.I.E.L.D frequency-
"Try heading up to the roof?" Carlos suggested as the signal cracked in her ear again, but no words could be translated.
"Good idea, stay with Jill, I'll be back soon" Natasha ran back out into the hospital-
She made her way back in to the hallway, the Zombies had thinned out a lot thanks to their previous venture into the hospital- a few Zombies attempted to grab the pre-occupied Avenger and each one was met with 30,000 volts of the Widows Bites.
"An*- swT-cher** Na-*a*ch" the earpiece in her ear painfully screamed static into her brain- Natasha had to let Maria know that she was alive- as she raced up the empty stairway she found that the higher up she got the clearer the signal got.
"Давай, сообщи мне хорошие новости" Natasha mumbled to herself and if the Black Widow wasn't too pre-occupied trying to get her comms to work then she would have noticed that she was being followed.
