Mal's POV

I was sitting in our dorm and she was doing my makeup and hair. She'd quickly (very very quickly) made me a purple dress to wear because I had none of my own. I threw a leather jacket over the top to make it look more me.

This is Mal's outfit and makeup

Then Evie applied copious amounts of blush

Then Evie applied copious amounts of blush. "Okay. Easy on the blush. I don't want to scare him away. Not that I could." I laughed. "Please. My mom taught me how to apply blush before I could talk. Always use upward strokes." Evie told me.

"My mom was never really big on makeup tips. I never had a sister." I told her. "Well, now you do," Evie said. "We're going to need all the family we can get If we don't pull this off. My mother's not a barrel of laughs when she doesn't get her way. Just ask Snow White."

"Are you afraid of her?" I asked, curious. "Sometimes," Evie admitted. "Are you afraid of your mom?" I sighed. "I just really want her to be proud of me. She gets so angry with me when I disappoint her. And sh... yeah, she's my mom, so I know she loves me... In her own way."

"Moving on. Come see." Evie pulled me over to the floor-length mirror. My eyes widened. "Oh. I look..." "Say it." Evie urged. "Not... hideous." Evie laughed. "Not even close."

Then there was a knock at the door. Evie opened it to reveal Ben holding two helmets. He stared at me. "For the first time, I understand the difference between pretty and beautiful. I hope you like bikes." Then I left with him.

What he meant by 'bikes' was a moped that he rode and I clung onto him at the back. I had never ridden a moped before. Then we hiked along a bush trail and a long wooden bridge.

"Tell me something about yourself that you've never told anyone," Ben asked. I mean, I tell the other VKs everything, so that wasn't fair. So I just told him my most embarrassing fact. "Um... My middle name is Bertha."

Ben laughed. "Bertha?" I scowled. "Yeah. Bertha. Just my mom doing what she does best. Being really, really evil. Maleficent Bertha Faery."

"Mine's Florian." Ben confided. I giggled disbelievingly. "Florian?" "Yeah." I laughed again. "How princely. Oh, that's almost worse." Ben chuckled. "I mean, you know, It's better than Bertha. But it's still not..."

Then suddenly I felt something around my eyes and everything went dark. I struggled, but Ben told me not to worry. "I'm only blindfolding you so I can surprise you." He told me. I stopped trying to kick him and let him guide me along.

"Watch your foot. You good?" I nodded. "Now... Open." He removed the blindfold and I gasped. We had arrived at a small lake surrounded by mossy rocks. There was a ruined stone gazebo, where Ben had set up an extravagant picnic.

There were all sorts of pastries and fruit I had never tried before. That's most things because the food wasn't great on the Isle. I took a round pastry and bit into it. It was filled with sweet red goop. I took another bite and sighed with pleasure. Ben lay down on one arm and stretched out. Then he looked at me.
