With his first Johto Gym battle ending in failure and suffering his first defeat, Riley was undergoing some serious training.

Riley: Okay, everyone. Let's do it one more time. He said to his Pokémon who nod at him. Riley currently held a piece of lumber that was attached to a tree by a rope. He threw it sending it into the air.

The piece of lumber came barreling back and they all stood their ground. They all jump before the lumber hits them.

Riley: Great. Now let's try it again. We gotta get used to Falkner's Flying types and their quick moves.

Marina: Hey, Riley. How's the training going?

Riley: Great.

Jimmy: So just out of curiosity, what kind of training is this?

Riley: I'm training our reaction time. Just dodging won't help, we gotta be able to stay on our feet so we can move better. I'm joining in so that way I can help them. Ready, everybody. His Pokémon nod. Ready? And...go! Riley throws the lumber.

The lumber comes back down and they all jump, but Chinchou wasn't going to make and was about to be hit, so Riley stayed and protected it. Marina and Jimmy gasp. Oddish sees this and cuts the rope so the wood falls to the ground without hitting Riley and Chinchou.

Riley: Wow. Great job, Oddish!

Oddish: Oddish. (You're welcome)

Riley: That was too close.

Marina: Seriously. Your training is way too dangerous.

Jimmy: Come on. Let's eat some lunch.

Riley: Yeah. We could use the break. Riley heads to the table and spots the food. However, something was wrong. Hey, where's the food? He asked.

Marina: What do you mean? Ah! She was surprised to see someone of the food gone. But...there was a whole plate right here.

RUSTLE RUSTLE

Everyone: Huh? They look into the tall grass and spot the perpetrator.

Riley: What's that Pokémon?

Riley: What's that Pokémon?

Jimmy: Hey, it stole our food!

Marina: I don't believe it. It's a Sneasel!

Riley: A Sneasel? Riley pulls out his Pokédex.

Pokédex: Sneasel, the Sharp Claw Pokémon. Its paws conceal sharp claws. If attacked, it suddenly extends the claws and startles its enemy.

Riley: Hang on, this Sneasel looks different than the one in the Pokédex.

Marina: You just noticed something very important. Some Pokémon's appearance differs from others due to their gender. For example, a female Pikachu's tail looks like part of a heart, but since Ash's Pikachu didn't have a tail like that, that means it's a boy.
