Chapter 27: Matt

Matt woke up in cold sweat and quickly woke Ethan up.

"Ethan. Get up. Something's not right. I could feel it." said Matt.

Ethan slowly opened his eyes and yawned. "Que pasa? What's up?" asked Ethan.

"Emmet!" cried Matt.

Emmet woke up and pulled out his staff. "What?! Is the school on fire?" asked Emmet.

"No. But I feel something isn't right. And Owen hasn't come back yet." said Matt.

The boys turned to Owen's bed and they gasped. They quickly ran into the hallway and then they ran into Lucy, who was also running in the halls.

"You felt it too?" asked Matt.

"Uh yeah. And... are you all wearing onesies?" asked Lucy chuckling.

The boys looked at themselves, chuckled and ran back to their room. Once they got out wearing their normal day clothes, Lucy showed them a piece of paper.

"I found this at my door." said Lucy.

Matt grabbed it and shook his head in disappointment as he handed it to Emmet.

"It's all codes," said Emmet.

"Que cosa?" asked Ethan.

"It means something," said Matt.

Lucy rolled her eyes. "It means that Owen has been kidnapped." she said.

"Of course he is! That's why we're outside our room!" said Ethan.

"Where is Zakariak?" asked Lucy.

"In his office?" asked Matt.

"No. He was taken." said Headmaster Garfunkle, who met everyone in the hallway.

"Headmaster. What do you know?" asked Emmet.

"Zakariak is an agent of Viscount Bryan. He always was. They brought a computer virus into the school. Its name is Polygon Render. And we are not in Rood Bridge Park now. We are in CyberSpace." said Headmaster Garfunkle.

"What?! How?!" cried Emmet.

"Guys, look out the window!" cried Matt. The kids ran towards the window and they saw a landscape of digital codes and colorful patterns. In fact, they were in some sort of place with a very retro vibe with a sunset on the horizon.

"Is this some home computer screensaver we're in?" asked Emmet.

"Yes and no. We are in CyberSpace where anything is possible." said Headmaster Garfunkle.

"That's what everyone said about Rood Bridge Park. Now, nothing seems to surprise me." said Matt.

"How do we get home?" asked Lucy.

"We must defeat Polygon Render and defeat Zakariak. They are somewhere in the school." said Headmaster Garfunkle.

"Great. Just great." said Lucy.

"Don't despair. I've got some of my Dad's vials and my staff. If Zakariak or this virus wants to go mano a mano against us, we'll beat them up." said Emmet proudly.

"We should start by getting our swords and whatever you guys use." said Lucy.

"You are being a little bossy muchacha." said Ethan.

"Of course I am! Our friend is in trouble!" said Lucy.

"She's right. Owen is probably hurt! We need to do something now!" cried Matt.

"DON'T BOTHER!" Zakariak's voice was heard. Everyone turned around and Zakariak walked out of the shadows.

"Polygon Render is going to lock the school in this infernal data scape. All of you are my prisoners." said Zakariak.

"We're not afraid of you!" cried Emmet.

"Oh yes you are." said Zakariak.

Just then, everything froze. It was as if someone paused a movie scene.

Matt blinked. And then he blinked once again. He turned to see his friends, frozen in place. The comical looking Zakariak was frozen as well, standing in front of the kids, taunting them. Emmet looked angry. He too was frozen. Lucy stood her ground and Ethan looked very unsure of what to do next. Matt walked around everyone and spoke.

"Guys? Everyone? Are you all okay?" asked Matt in confusion.

"Please everyone. Say something." he said, fear rising in his voice. Matt looked to the ground and black smoke was going in one direction.

Matt looked to see that it was going into the hallway, in Zakariak's direction. Matt decided to follow the smoke, unsure of what was going on. As he was walking towards where the smoke was leading him too, he saw it was leading him towards the library. Matt ran and opened the doors.

The Jersey Devil was waiting for him. He turned around while holding a book.

"And then darkness found its way into the forest. No one was safe. The big bad wolf's hot breath engulfed the forest and no one could escape its wrath."

"You again?" asked Matt.

"Do you know why I froze time? Why is everyone standing around like statues? I want to show you that the world you are in is a cesspool of worlds within worlds. Cyber Space is one of those worlds you see. A world created by man, that somehow was reused for Rood Bridge Park, our hidden world. I wonder how it was done." the Jersey Devil said.

"What do you want?" asked Matt slowly.

"To tell you that you cannot die in this place. You and your friends must live. In order for you to defeat Viscount Bryan and save the damn forest, you will need to survive and live to see the end. But the oddly dressed person doesn't want you to live. He wants you to die. And if you die, the Dark Impulse will grow unstable for Bryan." said the Jersey Devil.

"What are you telling me?" asked Matt.

"Bryan does not want this man to win. He wants him to die. And if he doesn't die, then all of you die. The only way for you to survive this is to kill Polygon Render and save the school first." said the Jersey Devil.

"Why are you telling me all this?" asked Matt.

"Bryan is watching you all. He wishes to see how you all win this. How you will all get through it. You and the supposed chosen ones. Tis a pity the Duke and Aster aren't here to see this. They would have enjoyed watching you children suffer." said the Jersey Devil.

"The three great evils..." said Matt.

Just then, the Jersey Devil put a finger on Matt's head and Matt passed out.
