Chapter 68: Matt and Friends

Firefly was given a vaccine by Emmet.

"Are you sure this is safe?" he asked.

"Yes it is. It's going to help you heal after your "shot." said Emmet giving Ethan snake eyes.

Ethan nearly choked on his drink but Firefly laughed and turned to him.

"That wasn't your fault dude. It was mine for standing around like a scarecrow." said Firefly.

"By the way, how long were you stalking us?" asked Matt.

"Stalking is a strong word! And how rude of you amigo. You mean how long I was watching you guys. I have been living undercover in this village for a while. When Morgana died, I knew I had to do something." said Firefly.

"And you came in the nick of time. Without you, this place would have become a post-apocalyptic wasteland!" said Owen.

"A what?" asked Firefly.

"You know, like.... Nevermind." said Owen with a shrug.

"A-Anyway, I have to meet my Mom. She's probably worried sick." said Lucy.

"I'll come with you." said Matt.

"Yo también!" called out Ethan suddenly, making Matt twitch an eyebrow with irritation.

"I'll be fine guys. My mother is a nurse working at Imani's house. I'm going over there to meet her. We might stay tonight over there." said Lucy.

"Okay. Well, if you need anything, shoot me a text. You've got my number." said Matt.

"Mine too." said Ethan.

Matt turned to Ethan and wanted to tell him to shut up until Firefly stood up and walked up to Lucy.

"Here's my number. If you want me to grow you some flowers, I'd be happy to grow flowers for you." said Firefly winking.

"You're so sweet. Thank you Firefly." said Lucy with a smile.

Both Matt and Ethan's faces turned red hot like chili peppers and they both exhaled deeply.

"I'll shoot you all a text later!" she said and waved everyone goodbye. As Lucy left, Emmet put his arm around Matt and whispered in his ear.

"You've got a lot of competition. I'm secretly rooting for you." he said.

"What?" asked Matt.

"You know.... You and Lucy." asked Emmet teasingly.

"Well... I uh..." Matt was saying.

"You should have at least taken her to Imani's." said Emmet.

"And if it were cold, you could have offered her your shirt. That way, you can show off your muscles from all that fighting." said Owen suddenly, also whispering.

"Did I forget to mention that I can make you a cologne that smells nice. You kinda smell of onions and tacos." said Emmet.

"And if Lucy knows any other girls, you can introduce them to us." said Owen.

"Yeah. And we'll be your best men on your wedding day!" said Emmet.

"Wedding!?" cried Matt.

Ethan and Firefly turned to Matt and they both smiled mischievously.

"You may have your fans Matt, but Lucy is going to go out with me." said Ethan.

"I beg to differ. I'm magic and you guys have no magic." said Firefly, joining in on the fun.

Matt blushed but chuckled as the other guys simply joked about it. It was nice to have that sort of levity after a scary situation with the robots and the shadows.

In the afternoon, Ethan was walking Matt home from Owen's.

"I know we were kinda being jerks back there, but you gotta understand we're your friends through and through." said Ethan.

"I know. It's just that I never had friends who supported me before. You know. I like you guys. But sorry if I sound stupid or like I don't know anything." said Matt.

"No you don't hombre. I'm glad we're friends. Have you any idea how lonely this place is without any other latinos around? There are a few, but not as much!" said Ethan.

"Look, I just feel like a pescado out of water. You know." said Matt.

"Matt, all of us feel like pescados out of water. Rood Bridge Park is home to so many strange people. I'm strange. You're strange. We all are strange." said Ethan.

"Thanks Ethan. For walking me home." said Matt.

"Anytime." said Ethan. Matt hugged Ethan goodbye and went to his house.

Matt walked in and he heard no noise from anybody. He decided to see if Tyrone was home. He walked upstairs and opened the door to Tyrone's room.

Matt froze when he saw Tyrone embracing Destiny in bed. They were both sound asleep. He was not naive or ignorant. He figured they made love under those sheets when they got home from the battle. Matt walked back quietly and closed the door. After he did that, he walked to his own bedroom and closed the door shut. At first, he was okay that Tyrone was with somebody he loved. Yes. He was with a young woman his age. And they made passionate love. Tyrone wasn't a boy any more. He was a man. Matt was the one who was still a boy. Within minutes, Matt sat on the floor and began to sob softly.

"He's a man now." he said to himself. Matt put on his favorite beaver's hoodie that was on his bed and put his hoodie up as he went back to sitting down. He stood there quietly in the dark for a long while, alone with his thoughts and tears rolling down his cheeks.
