Chapter 15 * Kai

It's been three hours since we left the restaurant and still no sign from Giovanna, I go downstairs to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

"Mason?" he's standing in the kitchen laptop open and phone on his ear, all color gone from his face, he looks up, "Someone took Gi," this is the first time I see emotion on Mason's face.

All of the air in my lungs evaporates, my heart breaks and my knees give out, "wha—" I feel my throat close and I'm on the verge of tears for the first time in twenty years.

The last time I felt this was the day my grandfather passed away, I was fifteen, and he passed away from natural causes, if Giovanna dies because of me, I will never forgive myself.

I clear my throat "How do you know?", he looks at me as if he's pondering if he should disclose what he knows, he sighs "they sent a picture" he turns his laptop to me and there she is, unconscious, her dress is dirty and barefoot.

"What can I do?" I ask. "Would you mind if we set up a small mission center here?" he asks me.

"Of course not, whatever you need to get her back" I pause "Mason—", he nods "I know, but nothing is lost, you see that bracelet on her ankle?" he points at the picture of a lifeless Giovanna once again, I just nod.

"That's a tracking device, she just needs to activate it, and knowing Gi, she's gonna make that happen".

Thirty minutes later, John and a couple of other men, I met, and know who are assigned to my security detail, show up.

"We're going to find her Kai" John pats my back, and I look at him "You know!" I tell him.

"Of course I know, anyone that has eyes on their face can see, you two love each other" I nod, I know I love her, I've known for a while but never told her, what if I don't get a chance to tell her?.

"Maybe we should call her dad" I suggest, "No," John says, "what can they do from DC?"

"They're in New York, we had dinner last night" John flinches and Mason shakes his head in my direction for me to drop the subject, but I have a feeling they're hiding something and if it'll get Giovanna back I'll do anything.

"Either you two tell me, what you have against her father, other than him being a complete asshole, or, I will call him," I say getting up and grabbing my phone.

"He's my brother" John finally says, "Excuse me?", maybe I didn't hear it correctly, it can't be but looking at him I can kinda see the resemblance.

"Jared and I are brothers, he moved out of our house when he was eighteen and we haven't spoken to each other for about forty years" John pauses "our father was an extremely violent man, Jared is two years older then me, so when he turned eighteen he enlisted in the military and never looked back, so when I turned eighteen and saw my brother wasn't coming back, I took my mother away and we started using her maiden name, so my father couldn't find us, I enlisted as well, provided for me and mom" he moves near the windows "ten years after me and my mom got out, we saw Jared in the street with, what we assumed was, his wife and new born babies, mom called his name, he looked up and turned to go the opposite way, like we were strangers to him" he walks back and takes a sit on the couch "so after that day I tried to forget he existed, until last year, when Gi applied to my company, she looks a lot like my mother and both me and mom have been following her career, so I knew who she was, but I could see in her eyes she didn't knew who I was so I never told her".

"That's why you didn't fire her when she breached protocol and started dating me" he nods "We'll get her back" he vows.
