Chapter 13 * Kai

I'm waiting for Giovanna to finish getting ready, when she calls out for me, "Baby, can you zip me up please?" I walk inside our walk-in closet and my heart skips a beat, Giovanna is a skin-tight green dress, that accentuates every single curve on her body.

I zip her up pull her long curly hair to the side and kiss her exposed neck "I think we should stay home" I kiss the curve of her neck.

She chuckles, and pushes me off her "You're the one who said to schedule this dinner" She turns around and wraps her arms around my neck "Tell you what, if we survive this dinner, you can do whatever you want to me when we get home".

"Alright let's get out of this house, we need to get this dinner over so I can fuck you on every single surface in this penthouse when we get home".

We get to the restaurant and her parents are already there as we approach the table, Giovanna's grip on my hand intensifies, I squeeze her hand, and she looks back at me and mouths sorry.

"Mother, father" she turns to me "this is Kai Hastings, my boyfriend".

Her mother gets up and hugs me "Oh lord, you're handsome, isn't he handsome Jared?" Giovanna's father doesn't acknowledge his wife and just stares at his daughter "Mr. and Mrs. Hathaway, a pleasure to make your acquaintance" I shake both of their hands, "please call me Camille" Giovanna's mother says while I pull a chair for Giovanna.

"When are you planning to get married?" Giovanna's dad asks "Can we order first before you start being rude?" Giovanna throws back at him.

"Giovanna Marie I didn't raise you for you to talk back at your father," her father says in a low voice but firm.

"You never raised a woman to be a Navy SEAL either but look at us" Giovanna replies.

"Enough both of you," her mother says looking at me and then around the restaurant.

We order, and while we wait for our food I try to appease everyone "How long are you two staying in New York City?" Jared snickers "If this petulant child did what her parents told her to do, we would have been out of this forsaken city a long time ago".

I put my glass down "Mr. Hathaway, I don't want to be rude, but talk with my future wife in that tone again and we'll have a problem".

"It's ok Kai" Giovanna says "No, it's not you're not a petulant child throwing a tantrum" I look at Jared "She is a grown woman and she deserves respect, more so for being the extraordinary woman she is" I finish.

Her mother smiles "Finally" she says, everyone looks at her.

"What did you just say?", Jared just asks, "You heard me, I had enough of you, I've already lost one child, I'm not losing the other because you're a Neanderthal who won't evolve" She finishes and our food arrives.

We eat in silence, until Camille breaks the silence "Are you moving permanently to New York?", Giovanna tenses, and all of a sudden I feel anxious.

"Most likely," she says, eyeing me, "we spoiled her too much she can't finish anything she starts, probably got some attention spam deficit," Jared says while taking a bite of his food.

"I had enough," Giovanna says through greeted teeth "You know why I wanted to enlist in the first place?" she waits for a reply but her father doesn't say anything, she inhales "I did it so you would notice me" she chuckles shaking her head "you want to know why I left? Because the man you pushed me to marry, the man that was sleeping right next to me sold out his friends names, locations, and mission logs to the highest bidder and nothing happened to him, why you may ask? Well because he had a bargaining chip, our government chose to work with a fucking traitor that got his men killed, then to put him behind bars or eliminate him as he deserved," she gets up. 

"If protecting men like him is what you want to do for the rest of your life be my guest but as for me, on the other hand, the only thing I want is to kill him with my bear hands, because of him I lost part of me, I lost my fucking best friend," she says with tears running down her face "so father respectfully you can shove your ideologies up your ass, I had enough, I'm done trying to live up to your expectations" she's about to leave, I get up to follow her, but she turns around and looks at her father "you know I miss the man that raised me, until he got a taste of power and became a money hungry man that started to neglect his wife and children", with that she leaves and I follow her outside.

"I need to walk for a little bit by myself," she says tears in her eyes "I won't say anything let me just be near you," I ask her.

She shakes her head, "Mason will take you home", she nods at Mason and he opens the door for me to get in the car.

Giovanna starts walking the opposite way as I just stare at her back.

Back at the penthouse, I try to call her but her phone is going straight to voicemail, I know I should give her some space but I'm worried.

"Her phone is going straight to voicemail," I say to Mason.

"Mr. Hastings—" he pauses for a second "Can I call you Kai?" he asks and I nod.

"When Giovanna started working with us, she didn't smile, she didn't talk much, me and her understand and work so well together because she lost her brother and I lost my wife. After sharing a bit I understood she was walking down the same path as me" he ponders on what to say next "a path where I can't hold a proper conversation, it was refreshing to see her smile, love, dance with you" he stops and looks me in the eyes " I didn't say anything to John because Gi is like a sister to me and I was happy to finally see her happy but give her time, her parents—" he continues "they're a huge reminder of her brother, they were twins, so when he died it's like she lost a limb, adding her father to the mix it's not easy, give her time and space and she'll come back".

I nod "Thank you Mason", I chuckle, "I think this is the first time I heard you formulate proper sentences".
