It's been a week of Giovanna ignoring me and my mother dodging me. I miss Giovanna more than everything, she texted asking for space, so I'm giving it to her, but when it comes to my mother, she will not get away with what she did.

I ring the doorbell at my parent's house, and my dad opens the door "Kai my boy" he gives me a bear hug, "hi dad", he ushers me inside.

"What brings you home?" he asks "The election is coming to an end so I thought we wouldn't see you until it was over".

"Is mom here?" I ask him, "No, she's out with some friends," he tells me while we take a seat in the living room.

"Do you know what she did?" I go straight to what brought me here, "what is it this time?" he chuckles "I know your mother can be overbearing but you know she means well".

"Being racist and managing to screw up my relationship is meaning well?" I ask him, my father visibly flinches "What do you mean?".

"Well to start she offered my girlfriend money for her to go away, Giovanna didn't accept it, so mom took it upon herself to go to my house with my ex, who we all know cheated on me every chance she got and was only with me for my money, to verbally abuse my girlfriend throwing some pretty awful racist comments at her".

"I-I didn't know son" he sighs, "I'm not saying what she did was correct but try and understand her, she grew up in a very conservative household".

"That doesn't give her the right to treat people as she pleases," I tell him with a stern tone, "I know son, I'll talk with her".

I get up and start pacing in the living room "I will talk with her myself, you guys will have to accept Giovanna or I'll just stop coming around altogether", my father gets up "That won't be necessary, I'll make sure of that".

I came upstairs to freshen up and rest for a little bit until Mom got home, after changing into a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt I sat on the bed pulled out my phone, and saw I had a couple of texts from Rachel.

Rachel: Your baby is back, I thought this would cheer u up a bit

I stare at Giovanna's picture Rachel sent until I hear a commotion downstairs. It looks like my mom is home and dad is unleashing hell on her.

I go downstairs and walk into the living room I see Dad passing around the living room, while my mother sits on the couch feeling unbothered checking her nails.

"Mother," I say, "Kai baby, tell your father is ridiculous," my irritation increasing by the second.

"No" she looks at me in surprise "What on earth were you thinking, offering money—" she averts my gaze "Saying those hurtful and racist things—" my voice starts to rise "Bringing a woman that has done nothing but to cheat and use me for my money into my house?"

My mom clears her throat and looks up at me "I just helped that girl understand her place" she tells me, her tone colder than I ever heard.

Is this who she is? My mom was always so loving and caring, I can't believe I never saw this side of her.

"She's probably a low life using you for your money" I stare in shock at the woman who raised me, "who are you?" I ask her, "Can you tell me she is not?" I start to laugh and she looks at me like I may have gone crazy.

"Do you know Judge Camilla Du Pont-Hathaway?" I ask her, "The first Supreme Court black female Judge," my dad says.

"Giovanna is a Du Pont, her mother is the Camille Du Pont-Hathaway" she flinches, I just shake my head.

"You were so busy seeing skin color that you didn't even bother to know the person that was in front of you," I tell her, "I'm going to let you in another little secret, Giovanna's father is our country's current Air Force Chief of Staff General, Jared Hathaway" I sigh "but even after hearing that, even if you change your mind about Giovanna, I don't want you anywhere near her" I look at my awfully quiet father "I'm sorry Dad, but after what she's done I can't" he sighs "You told me once, when we love someone we have to stand up for them and that's exactly what I'm doing".

"I understand Kai" he smiles at me sadly, I nod and turn around to go upstairs to grab my things to leave.

"Kai baby please, I don't want to lose you" my mom chases after me, I look at her "You should have thought about that sooner".
