Chapter 32 * Kai

Epilogue 

Two years later

Today is the day I married my best friend, the months after Giovanna woke up, were hard, with physiotherapy, and a lot of doctor appointments but she pushed through. She still gives me hell every day, for stepping down from Mayor, but I believe everything happened as it was supposed to.

I took over my family's business and had to move the headquarters from Boston to New York, I didn't want to do it in the beginning because it required a lot of back-and-forth travel but Giovanna encouraged me and every time I said I wanted to quit she would take off her engagement ring and say she would not marry a quitter.

John made her COO, and he's planning on retiring in a couple of years and passing down the chairman and CEO positions to his niece.

Rachel is Giovanna's maid of honor, Em is one of her bridesmaids, Zain is my best man, Nate is one of my groomsmen, and JJ is our flour man, or in this case beer man.

I'm standing at the aisle, everything is perfect, Giovanna asked her mom and grandmother to walk her down the aisle, and her father went complete radio silence after his divorce with Camille was finalized.

I look around at our guests, we chose to have a small ceremony with only the people we love present, my dad came but I asked my mother not to come, even after Giovanna told me it was alright for me to invite her, I didn't want any reminders of the times we almost lost each other, and my mom is one of them.

The orchestra starts playing This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan, JJ walks down the aisle giving beer cans to our guests, me, Zain and Nate chuckle he seats down and If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys starts playing everyone turns around when she steps on the aisle, with her mother on one side and her grandmother on the other, "fuck", I murmur when I see her my eyes glossed with unshed tears.

Giovanna is wearing a beautiful, lace corset that spreads into a huge skirt, with a slit on her right leg, wedding dress. Her curly hair is put together in a bun, with a few loose strings in the front "Sweet baby Jesus" I'm about to marry this goddess, how I get so lucky? I have no clue, but I plan to spend the rest of my life, working on being worthy of her every single day.

She looks at me and smiles, when they reach me, both her mother and grandmother, place their hands in mine, "hurt her and we will hurt you" her mother whispers, I swallow, and they both chuckle.

"The only thing we ask of you is to make our baby happy," her grandmother says stepping back. The officiant starts the ceremony. 

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen we are gathered here today to celebrate the love between Kai and Giovanna", a little bit later it's time to exchange our vows, Zain hands me her ring and I place it on the tip of her finger, a smile on my face, "Giovanna, the day you said yes was the happiest day of my life. I love you so much and I vow to love you for a thousand years, but for me not even a thousand years are enough with you. Today we become husband and wife, some didn't believe our relationship would last but we proved them wrong and will continue to do so", tears streaming down my face and she whips them away, "When you find true love you shouldn't wait, true love is extremely hard to find so when or if you find it don't ever let it go, I found mine and I don't plan on ever letting go, I promise to stay by your side through ups and downs, in sickness and in health, even though I think we experience enough of sickness so let's just focus on the health part" our guest laugh, "for better or for worse, I will always love, cherish, respect and value you", she smiles and I push the ring onto her finger.

"How am I suppose to follow that?" she says, and everyone chuckles, "Kai" she begins, pushing my ring on the tip of my finger, "before you, I wasn't living when I first met you I thought you were just another rich playboy but I couldn't be more wrong. You are caring, a man of values, and full of life to give and I know I won't ever love someone the way I love you" She starts to tear up, "Today I give you my heart and soul, I choose you to be my lifelong partner, I promise to push you to be your best self as you push me. You are without a single doubt the most important man in my life, I know you'll be an incredible husband, and more importantly an amazing father", she places a hand on her stomach "To you my love and our family I have the pleasure of announcing we have a surprise guest in the wedding" I look around, but I don't see anyone standing up or walking in so I give her a puzzled look, she smiles "you seem a little confuse, so allow me to explain, in about six months it won't be just the two of us, our little family will have a new addition" I look at her stomach and back up at her, "are you sure?" I ask her.

"Yes, I've known for a couple of weeks, so I decided I would wait and tell you today, because what better way to tell the love of your life you're expecting a bundle of your love than when you're professing your love" she pushes the ring on my finger, "so from today on, I promise to be the best wife and mother to you and our baby".

"I pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss your bride," the officiate says, I smile as I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her closer to me, my lips meet hers and everything around us fades away.
