the night olivia gets the idea to write so american
fluff/slight lime
-the only sound in the house is olivia's soft voice and her guitar that complements the song. as always, louis is watching, not taking his eyes off her as she sings. it's not like he can, anyway.
she's singing an unreleased love song from maybe a year ago that she'd written for nobody in particular. it's actually a more common thing in her songs than others would think. the only reason why it even exists is because she'd rewatched the titanic one night and felt inspired to write all over again.
as louis takes out his phone to film her, she feels a slight blush come onto her face and she looks down to hide her still obvious smile. he turns the flash on and waves it over his head as if he's at one of her concerts.
as she finishes the song, she glances up at the clock on the wall to check to the time, only to find out that it's already 7pm. her eyes widen and she puts down her guitar.
"oh, shit, no wonder i'm hungry," she whispers, getting up from her seat on the couch. "i'll cook dinner."
louis gives her a look.
"what?"
he feigns surprise. "is this coming from the same person who said she had peanut m&ms for dinner because she couldn't cook? and yes, i watched that interview."
olivia actually laughs and shakes her head as she steps into the kitchen. "that was two years ago, things have changed. you taught me how to cook better and i just got up off my ass so i could learn."
louis shrugs. "well, yes, i suppose i did teach you well. but i was thinking we should go out on a dinner date tonight."
"is that so?"
"yeah, i found this fancy italian restaurant and i think you'll like it," he tells her excitedly. "and you won't even have to put in the work to cook."
olivia pauses, pretending to think about it even though it's already a done deal in her mind. "you're right, i do love italian. and i like the idea of somebody else cooking dinner."
"is that a yes?"
she nods and leans in to kiss him. "of course. i'll never say no to a date."
"oh, and this is also so you can stop listening to taylor swift's new album nonstop," louis adds with a laugh, seeing her confused expression. "not sure if you've noticed, but it's the only thing you've been listening to since this morning."
olivia's eyebrows raise as if she can't believe it. "the taylor swift literally released 31 songs yesterday, and i still can't wrap my head around it. i need time to absorb things."

when they step out of the house to get into the car, they're wearing semi-matching checkered clothes, which was something both of them weren't even aware of until the last minute. olivia's also wearing his yankees hat, as well as their matching bracelets they got for each other back in the isle of wight.
"you look very pretty tonight, liv," louis comments. "well, clearly you're always pretty, but with my clothes on you look even better."
"you flatter me," she replies in her own british accent, not being able to hide the slight pink that colors her face. "and you're looking handsome tonight, too, might i add."
"why, thank you, ms. rodrigo," he chuckles and they lean in for a quick kiss at the same time. he opens the car door for her as if he's her chauffeur, ironically, since he isn't even the one driving.
