louis and olivia enjoy valentine's day together

olivia wakes up to the sweet scent of chocolate and warm batter and the soft sound of the cure playing somewhere in the background. she opens her eyes to the sunlight spilling into the bedroom and she reaches to the side, only to feel an empty space.

she's about to get up and look for louis until he magically opens the door and walks into the room, still in his pink sweater and plaid pajama pants. he's holding a plate of heart-shaped crumpets and a purple box of chocolates. he smiles sweetly when he sees she's woken up.

"happy valentine's day, babe," he says with his scratchy morning voice and the most charming smile, setting down the box and the plate onto the nightstand.

"happy valentine's day." olivia sits up and gives him a hug and a kiss as he leans onto the bed, which they both smile into. as they pull away, she sees the plate of crumpets and asks, "are those for me?"

louis smiles and hands her the plate. "only for you. well, i did make some for myself, but that's different. anyway, look, i even shaped them like a heart! that wasn't easy to do."

"i can tell you put your love into making these," she chuckles.

"that, i did. which means you'll love them. i mean, i hope. my whole family loves these. but you should also eat fast."

"why?"

"i've got a lot planned for us today. come on, you didn't think we'd be sitting around all day?"

olivia smiles, her curiosity taking over. "okay, then. what are we doing?"

he puts a finger to his lips. "it's a secret until you finish the crumpets."

"you can't even tell me one thing?"

louis jumps off the bed and opens the bedroom door. "no. i want to see the look on your face when you find out." and with that, he closes the door.

louis had spent the majority of valentine's day making sure they both had fun. he took both of them out to a picnic, they went bowling, drove go karts together for the first time, had ice cream, and did their shared favorite: skating on the sidewalks of la. olivia saw it as a bunch of dates combined into one day, which she enjoyed.

the thing was, louis had insisted on paying for all of the things that weren't free. every time she wanted to take responsibility, he stepped in before she could do so. he saw it as his way of treating her and she deserved to sit back and let him take care of things.

it's nearly sunset as they're driving down the pacific coast highway, the sun blinding both of them far too many times. louis, being the one who forgot to bring sunglasses, has to keep shielding his eyes as he watches the road ahead even though he's not the driver.

"so, the beach?"

olivia nods and smiles. "yeah. so now that you're done spoiling me—"

"hey, you enjoyed that, you have to admit," louis interrupts her. "i just wanted to prove to you that you're not the only one who has money to spend on us."

"you didn't have to prove it; i know you do," olivia responds. "...but i do have to admit i'm flattered by the fact that you tried to show me."

he smiles. "and you didn't have to tell me; i know you are."

he turns to look out the window then to see a pretty sight: the spread out ocean which is a deep, inviting blue. waves crash into the shore as the pink sky reflects off the water. it's a view he can't take his eyes off of.

"it's pretty, isn't it," olivia replies, being able to see him out of her peripheral vision. he turns back to her. "santa monica is one of my favorite places to watch a california sunset."

"might as well be one of mine too. it's beautiful." he looks out the window again. "so, the beach?" he repeats with a smile.

she chuckles. "we're not going in the water. it's way too cold right now."

"oh, we aren't? for a second i thought we were skinny dipping."

she hits him on the shoulder playfully and they both laugh.

olivia parks near the beach and they both walk to the pier. once they get there they're immediately recognized, but some people leave them alone due to the fact that it is valentine's day and maybe they do want to be left alone. they're both thankful for that.

louis buys a funnel cake for both of them to share to further prove his point (as if he hadn't already done it enough throughout the day) and they venture off to the edge of the pier. there, the sunset is clearest and at its best view. the sky is painted peach and the sun is a bright half-dome which falls below the line where the sky meets the sea.

"this is my favorite valentine's day," she says as she finishes the last bite of funnel cake, finally turning away to look at him. "all thanks to you, lou."

"aw, really, liv?" he asks. "i have to say the same to you, though. valentine's wouldn't be the same without you here with me."

somewhere behind them, a busker plays their guitar. a soft, romantic tune. they must've heard them and decided to set the mood. olivia smiles and steps closer to him. "i love you, have i told you?"

"yes," he whispers. "but i always want to hear you say it one more time."

"why don't i just show you?"

she stands on her toes to meet his lips as she kisses him. he bends down so that she doesn't have to get tired of trying to meet his height. both of their lips taste like strawberries and vanilla ice cream and they pull away with a laugh.

"however, i think i like it better when you show me," louis concludes. olivia laughs.

"yeah? then maybe i should do it more often."

as the sun sets and they sky turns dark they do some carnival games. louis wins a teddy bear for olivia at a ring toss game and they try to decide on a name for it as they walk back to their car. they're still unsure as they drive away from the beach, not knowing where else to go.

louis hums as olivia turns on the radio. "how about... peter?"

"parker? i didn't know we adopted a spider-man bear."

he laughs, then suddenly getting an idea. "maybe we should name it nini."

she flashes him a surprised look. "wait, you watched my show?"

"not all of it. i only watched it for you. and sometimes i get bored so i just tried it out."

"yeah, it's probably not your type of show, is it? wait, i've got a name! how about lord tewksbury?"

"you watched enola holmes? wait—i forgot, we watched that together. i don't think any of these names are perfect for it."

"it's fine. we can always figure it out later. so do we have anywhere else planned to go? i've just been driving to god knows where, at this point."

"i was thinking of taking us to a restaurant for dinner," louis says slowly. "but then i also thought about going home and having some alone time with you." he turns to look at her while running a finger over his bottom lip, hoping she'll take the hint.

olivia's confused at first, silent for a moment. but then it dawns on her and the corners of her lips turn up. she accelerates the car just a bit more. "in that case, i think we better get home."

a/n: happy valentine's day!!
