WHOOSH

I groan, shielding my face from the alarms blaring that suddenly cradle me, engulfing me with a painful headache. My hand stays steady, my eyes however, are blinking uncontrollably and darting around my surroundings.

I tilt my head slightly, obviously confused about what's going on. Embracing me was what I assumed to be a large metal cage, ascending swiftly through a tall tunnel of darkness, rushing past small traces of blue lights.

I jolted, becoming accustomed to the painful screeching as the make-shift elevator travelled up the tunnel, into further view of darkness. I begin to stand, before violently stumbling and being greeted with the now familiar, cool floor.

I nestle myself between two of what I presume to be boxes and rest my elbows on my knees. I begin to feel warm, safe even as I rock back and forth, but I'm soon awoken from this illusion as I begin to slow down and realise, I must be nearing the top of the abyss.

CLUNK

The cage stops abruptly, and I'm enveloped by the harsh rays of sunlight, my hand retaking its familiar home above my eyes.

What the fuck?

I whimper, the sunlight piercing further into my vision. My hand leaves its position, and I shrink further between the two boxes, cradling me in between the safe wall of the crate. Before I can think, I hear voices coming from above me. Male voices.

I may not remember anything, but somehow, I do know that one girl paired with as many boys as I hear, is a recipe for disaster. My recognition of this dilemma forces me to further protrude into the wall, my shoulders almost hunched over my knees.

THUD THUD THUD

A small yelp releases from my grasp as the cage shakes violently and I hear loud, heavy footsteps making their way around, inspecting my materialistic companions that joined me in the ascent to this odd place. They had a strange composure to their stance compared to the frantic onlookers.

"What do you see, Gally?" One of the males' queries, his words tinged with concern.

"Did we not get someone this month?" Another asks, the group's growing curiosity overwhelms their tones, making them sound almost worried.

What did they mean 'get someone'? What is this place? Who's Gally?

A plethora of questions shroud my clouded mind, and I begin to make out the boys' silhouettes. Shit, there's more of them than I thought. Their voices overlap and intertwine before they drop silent.

"Slim it Shuck-faces, I'm looking." A husky voice snaps, finally ceasing the constant chatter from above. This voice seemed closer and louder, and I realise that this must be whichever of them jumped down to find me.

I found it almost amusing how the rest of the group instantly dropped their gossip, all because of a single sentence spoken by this boy.

"But seriously Gally, this is important, what do you see?" The voices struggled not to overlap once again, taking care not to cause the gruff male, who I'm assuming is this 'Gally', to snap at them again. He grunts softly and continues to inspect the box.

His footsteps shake me harder and grow louder as I feel him getting closer to me, still cowering between the boxes. His shadow leaks through a small passage and I gulp.

Fuck how tall is this kid?

I came to the conclusion that he's about 6'1-6'2.

I slowly rise, making sure my first impression with these potential predators would not be me hugging my knees pitifully in a corner.
