I hate dreams.

I used to enjoy them. They used to offer me a sense of safety, comfort even, but now, they were just fragments of broken memories, leaving me with a sense of isolation and curiosity.

I lay in my hammock, contemplating my deep loathing for what occupies my sleep, when suddenly, I'm sucked into one.

Y/n's dream:

A bright light pierces into my vision, and I wince harshly, my eyes squinted to capacity. Fuck no, not this place again. I'm beginning to really hate this clean-ass warehouse. Although, younger me doesn't seem to hate it so much, I feel oddly at ease here.

In front of me, is the same raven-haired girl from my other dreams, except she's somewhat younger. We must only be about 11 here, maybe even less. We're sat inside a simple room; one I haven't seen before. Accompanying us is a plain wooden table with half a deck of cards stacked above it.

The rest of the deck is being shuffled in Teresa's hands; a wide smile spread across her face. I don't get enough time to take in my surroundings before younger me decides to break the calming silence, "T, did you go on a mission yesterday? I didn't see you."

Her face brightens, but a splash of guilt lays in her eyes. She nods proudly, and I can feel the neighbourly abyss of doubt retake residence in the pit of my stomach. "Really? So, you're going through with it, you want to be one of the scientists?" I ask her, locking our gazes together.

"Yes, I need to find a cure." She replies, trying to justify her actions. "Well, can you tell me how the mission went? Mum never lets me know anything, and since you're one of them now, you can tell me!" I shriek, an intimate feeling of excitement rising within me. "Maybe you can even take me some time." I continue, but she stays silent. "Reese?" Her eyes meet mine once again.

"Sorry y/n, but you can't come, or know about it, it's confidential." She whispers, knowing it will upset me. I push away from the table, storming out of the room and into the seemingly never-ending hallways, quickly getting lost.

Nausea overwhelms me, and my vision swirls. I feel myself grow slightly taller, and I'm back in the clothes I was wearing on the day Gally was taken.

In front of me, once again, is Teresa. Except she's looking at me with sympathy and pity. "Reese, please, you can't tell him! He works for WCKD for God's sake, he'll throw him into the maze!" I plead with her, but she just stands there, shaking her head slightly.

A man walks in, his face resembling that of a rat, and he manoeuvres his way to Teresa, placing a firm hand on her shoulder as she stares at the floor. "It's okay, y/n, he can't hurt you anymore, we're sending him to the trials." His voiced is laced with a hint of an Irish accent.

"That's so unfair, you can't put him there!" I yell at them, a tear rolling down my cheek. "All we did was kiss; you can't do this!" I continue, my panic growing with each agonising second. The man lifts his hand, to reveal the pair of grubby shoes I had seen Gally wear in a previous dream, he must've left them in my room. "W-where did you find those?" I stutter, beginning to realise there's little hope of saving him.

"In your room, don't worry, he won't see you again." The man replies, and my pain twists to anger. "You should be thanking Teresa; I wouldn't have known about that subject's behaviour if she hadn't made me aware of it."

I stare at her, mouth wide open, she can't even look at me. I run at her, pushing her to the floor and gripping my hands around her neck. "I hate you! Why would you tell him you stupid bitch! I hate you; I hate you!" I scream at her, my throat hoarse as tears stream down my face. "He's just a boy, a child, like you and me! How can you be so fucking heartless Teresa! What happened to your good sense you twisted fuck!" My hands release from her throat, and I punch her hard across the cheek, before being pulled back by the rat-man.
