Y/n's dream

My eyes flutter with confusion as I stare at what's around me. I'm back in the lab-like warehouse that I saw after I was stung, the one where Gally was taken from me. I start running, trying to escape from wherever I was before I'm stopped in my tracks.

I grunt as I smack face-first into someone's broad, hard chest. A shiver creeps through my body as I look down and see a line of vibrant coloured liquid splashed across my shirt. I groan, realising I'm going to have to change shirts, the one I'm wearing pressing adoringly onto my young figure.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." The figure perks up. I'd honestly forgot that they were there. Although we were young, they were still a little bit taller than me, and I'm overrun with shock as I see who's peering down at me. Gally. Wasn't he taken?

"That's alright... not your fault, I should've been looking where I was going", I replied. It was like I was speaking but couldn't choose what I was saying. I felt the familiar blush that Gally gives me rise onto my face.

This must be before he was taken, maybe even before we knew each other.

We stare at each other for a few seconds, and it gets quite awkward. Thankfully, younger me realises this too, and breaks the silence. "You're A9, right?" I ask, and Gally's face falls. "I have a name you know", he replies, disheartened, and his eyes drop to the floor.

I didn't mean to offend him. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise. What's your name?" I ask, smiling kindly at him. His face returns to its unphased smile as he replies. "Gally", he sticks his hand out. I shake his in mine, "Y/n". His eyes widen.

"You're y/n?" He asks, spreading confusion throughout me. "Yes..." I reply suspiciously. "Why did they let you come here?" His words only magnify my confusion, what did he mean let me come? I ran here by myself.

Before I can think of a reply, younger me spits one out, "My mom's out on some weird thing with Teresa, so I decided to explore."

Ah, I had snuck out. Seems like something I would do.

"So, Gally, what's it like this side of the building?" I ask him, my smile returning, eager to hear his answer. "Pretty good most of the time. I'm almost old enough to enter the trials which is scary, but for now I like hanging out with my friends."

Oh god, I can't imagine the fear of knowing that my growing age meant being thrown into something called 'trials', which I'm guessing is the maze.

Instead of feeling pity, my younger self floods with pain and jealousy. "You get to see the other kids?" I ask, shrinking into my shoulders. "Yeah... don't you see any?" His brows furrow. "Only Teresa and Thomas, but they're always on these weird missions, so no, not really." He pulls me into a tight, surprising hug, taking me off guard.

My vision pools and swirls, and I'm shifted through what feels like time, returning to Gally being dragged through the same corridors, away into the maze.

I fall, crumpled in the empty room they've trapped me in. Memories flood my mind, those of which I had just lived.

I could tell that I missed them. Missed how simple it all was, back before we hit whatever age we were at. I missed how my biggest issue was my only friends doing things without me, and how Gally didn't even know me, but still understood that a hug was all I needed. That he was all I needed.
