I got out of my car and followed the Cullens into their home. The inside had pale beige and tan walls and a white sofa. The entire back wall was a window that looked out on a river and forest. “Your home is beautiful,” I said to no one in particular.
“Thank you, dear.” this reply came from someone I had not noticed enter the room. I
turned to find a beautiful women with light brown hair that was slightly wavy.
“Your welcome, ma’am.”
“Oh there’s no need for that dear. Just call me Esme,” she said with a slight smile.
I smiled in reply.
“So what brings you to our home dear?”
“Your family and I have some things to discuss.”
“Oh. Of course. Well, Carlisle should be home soon. We can discuss whatever we need to we he arrives.”
“Sounds good to me.”
Carlisle walked in as soon as we finished talking.
“What do we have here?” Carlisle asked with confusion in his voice.
Before I could say anything Edward jumped in.
“We have to discuss some things with Bella here. We now she’s not human and she knows we’re not. We just need to set some things straight.”
“Oh. Well lets take this into the kitchen, shall we?”
That must be where they hold meetings. I thought to myself.
I followed them into the kitchen and when I walked in everyone was already seated and the only seat open was next to Edward. Again. When I sat down they all looked at me.
“Well where would you like me to start?”
“From the beginning if you please.” Carlisle said to me.
“Alright. I was born on September 13, 1625 in Canterbury, England. When I was 18 I was walking through the streets from my friend’s house and it was just past dark. As I was walking I was attacked by a vampire. He drank from me until I was at the point of death. Then he bit his own wrist and pushed it to my mouth, forcing me to drink. Once he pulled his wrist away from my mouth he instantly snapped my neck. I had woken up from death a vampire. The vampire’s name who turned me was Damon. He explained to me what I was and how to feed without killing. He told me about our powers and the old legends. He told me he was sorry he had to turn me. He told me he needed help controlling himself and I gladly obliged. I didn’t blame him for what he did. He just needed someone to be with him and help him keep himself under control. After he had explained everything to me I went to see my friend Bethany. Bethany was a witch and in order for me to be out in the sunlight and not be burned I had to wear a lapis lazuli ring or pendant that had been blessed by a witch. She gladly did it for me. She wanted to protect me even though I was the enemy now. I had been her best friend. We left town and I helped Damon for centuries until he found his mate. After that I left him because he didn’t need my help anymore. I wandered around on my own and eventually stopped feeding on humans. I began to feed on animals. It wasn’t so much that I didn’t enjoy hurting them, but more because I didn’t like the taste of their blood much. Animals taste much better. The only time I drink human blood now is when I am under attack so that me and my powers are stronger.”
Everyone was silent at my story. When they recovered Emmet burst out and said “What in the world? How did we not know there were different kinds of vampires?!?!”
“Wow, wow, wow. Hold up. What do you mean different kind of vampires?”
Carlisle was the one who answered me. “I guess it’s our turn to explain. We are also vampires as loudmouth over there just blurted. But we are not the same type as you are. We are changed differently, and do not burn in the sunlight. We sparkle. I know it sounds silly but its true.”
When he paused there was a question that came to my mind.
“Carlisle, do you have fangs?”
When I said this they all burst out laughing.
“What?” I asked puzzled.
“Are….you…..serious?” Emmet got out between fits of laughter.
“Yes.”
At this they all stopped chuckling.
“I’ll take that as a no.”
After I said that, Rosalie, who I had forgotten was at the table, said, “Well of course it’s a no. Do you?”
Again I replied yes.
At this they all blurted out at the same time “Can we see them?”
It was my turn to laugh but I told them yes.
“If we all go outside we could either go hunting or you could pretend to attack me. Whichever you prefer.”
“I think it would be best if we went hunting. I don’t want to risk my family’s safety.” answered Carlisle.
I just nodded, stood up, and told them to lead the way. We went outside and they jumped across the river. Once we were under the cover of the trees they told me to take the lead. I closed my eyes and caught the sent of a mountain lion. I ran and as I ran I could feel the veins around my eyes begin to show and my fangs extract. I jumped on the mountain lion’s back and plunged my teeth into it’s neck. I could feel the blood run down my throat soothing the thirst I felt. When it was dry I pulled away to see the others staring at me in awe. Edward had an odd look of pride in his eyes that didn’t make any sense to me. Oh well. There are more pressing matters at hand. I’ll come back to that thought later. They continued to stare until my fangs retracted back into my mouth and I heard a low whistle. I think it came from Emmet.
“Now that that’s over with there is one more thing I must tell you.”
“Go ahead darling,” Esme said.
“Well, when I was telling you my story there was one legend in particular I had in mind. The legend actually turned out to be no a legend at all. It was the legend of true soul mates. When your mate looks at you for the first time you’re supposed feel knots in your stomach. Every time you touch, you are supposed to feel electric tingles. And when your mate accepts you as theirs and as what you are your chests begin to glow and your souls will merge. I saw it happen to Damon and his mate Jade.”
When I finished Edward gasped and had a look of disbelief on his face. Carlisle had a look of confusion on his face and asked, “That’s nice, Bella, but I don’t understand what this has to do with us.”
I felt a tug on the inside of my chest and gasped. “Well, Carlisle, I think your about to find out.”
