Why did you leave without saying anything?

Emma couldn't believe it. Here he was. In front of her. After all of this time.

« Norman... »

Norman raised his head to look at her, his smile softening at the same time.

« Emma... »

She saw his smile drop as he avoided eye contact.

« I wanted to surprise you. You were once again faster than me. »

He looked back at her. He could see her expression of surprise. Guess he still managed to surprise her after all.

« I wanted to apologize for not having said anything. I'm sorry. Krone told me how worried you were for me. »

Emma shook her head as her tears finally escaped her eyes. She made her way toward him to give him a hug. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hid her face in the crook of his neck. Norman wrapped his arms around her too, closing his eyes at the same time.

How they had both missed having each other in their arms like that.

No need to apologize... »

She backed away to look at him in the eyes, her hands still on his shoulders. She suddenly punched his cheek.

« But don't do this ever again! I was worried sick! Everyone was worried sick for you! »

« I'm sorry for making you worry. It wasn't my intention. »

She let go of him.

« That's alright. But, where were you all this time? »

He took her hands that were still on his shoulders.

« I wanted it to be a surprise. I didn't think it would make everyone worry like this. »

« That's okay. »

They went to sit on the nearest bench.

« I was out of town for some time. »

« Why? »

Norman let out a chuckle.

« Someone came to me one day as I was sketching in the park with one of my remaining sketchbooks that I still had. They saw what I was doing and asked me if I had studied art. I told them that I never studied art of my entire life, that I had only learned by observation and practice. And that someone used to teach me. They were impressed and told me that they would've hired me to work for their studio if I had a diploma. »

« Really? That's... quite sad to hear. »

« Yeah, but that's not the best part. They told me that they would pay me the school so I could get my diploma and work for them. I agreed, knowing it would help me to have a better life. I didn't think I would have to leave town to go study arts actually. I wanted to surprise everyone by coming back at the end of my studies with a new life. I started three years ago now, but it was easier to travel at that time. I wasn't able to travel anymore, that's why I decided to stay there for the end of my studies. »

Emma could see how excited it was making him talk about that.

« Since when are you back? »

« A week now. I would've come to visit you earlier if I hadn't been busy. I went to visit an apartment. And I started working. I really like what I do so far. »

Emma's smile softens.

« I'm glad you're alright and happy. »

« Me too. Also, congratulations! »

The cheetah tilted her head.

« For your baby. I noticed him, you know. You and Curt must be really happy. »
