As a few weeks passed, the incident with Mr. Kim still lingered fresh in my mind, but I refused to let it weaken me. Despite his persistent trouble making, I will bear it all and get back to him someday.
He kept throwing orders at my face every day and now his latest demand added another layer of frustration. "There's our new office under construction nearby. I want you to go there and speak to the engineer or the site manager for the cost report," his words echoed in my mind. Oh, how I wished I could just strangle him to death.
I found myself behind the wheel, driving toward Incheon City. The journey is expected to take around 45 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic. I silently hoped that I wouldn't encounter any delays along the way.
As I drove, Mr. Kim's words echoed in my mind. He had insisted, "I don't want to hear any excuses that you can't go. The report is important, and I need it by this evening." I tried to reason, "Can't you ask them to send you photos of that document?" But his response was a firm "No."
I expressed my frustration, "You're doing this on purpose, right?" His response was cold and threatening, "Are you leaving or should I start deducting the compensation money from your salary?"
Reluctantly, I relented, "Fine, I will go." His tone softened slightly as he affirmed, "Good. I will send you the location."
Driving through the streets of Incheon, I finally reached the location. Driving inside the compound, I showed my ID card to the watchman, who allowed me entry. I inquired if any manager was available as I needed to speak with them. He informed me that I could find the manager inside the building on the second floor. Thanking him, I moved my car inside and parked it.
The building stood tall amidst a flurry of construction activity, its skeletal frame reaching skyward with only a few floors completed. Cranes loomed overhead, their mechanical arms extending like sentinels guarding the construction site. The air was filled with the sounds of hammering, drilling, and the occasional clang of metal against metal. Workers moved about purposefully, some scaling scaffolds while others operated heavy machinery.
The dusty construction site triggered my allergies, making me sneeze uncontrollably. Desperate for relief, I rummaged through my bag until I found a mask. Quickly, I put it on, hoping it would shield me from the swirling particles in the air.
