~ Flashback ~

Heeseung had just finished a shift off at his full time position at a Café. He took a year off from school to help pay for rent and support his father while he committed various crimes.

No matter how much he tried to stop his father, he was only returned with bruises over his body. So he stopped reasoning with his father and worked to survive.

He watched people his age preparing for graduation. While he was a year behind. He wanted so bad to move on with his life. But he didn't know where to start again.

"Are you sure you don't want to go part time instead of full? You could go back to school, and this job will still be here for you" his employer asked Heeseung as he walked into the back of the Café, starting to brew some coffee.

"Summer is almost over. It would be a perfect time for you to re-enroll and start building a life for yourself that's yours."

Heeseung shook his head. "As much as I want to, I can't watch my dad go down. He's already suffering so much since my mom... I just think this is what I need most right now."

His employer nodded his head, but a hint of disappointment from Heeseung's choice reflected in his eyes.

Suddenly a small commotion came from the right side of inside the Café. Followed by the sounds of loud stomping from a girl in heels walking furiously out of the building. Leaving a mess and a bill with the guy she just left.

"Heeseung can you please go check what happened and clean up over there?"

Heeseung nodded and walked over to the table carrying cloths and the bill. "Rough date?" He asked taking quick glances at the guy sitting in a chair covered in Coffee and cake.

"Trouble with the girls that's all. They complain I spend more time with my sister than I do with them," he answered shrugging his shoulders.

"If they can't respect I put my family first above all, then they're not with my time anyways."

Heeseung smiled. He liked this guy, he was exactly the type of person he needed in his life. "I like you, you seem fun. I'm Lee Heeseung" he said putting his hand out for him to shake.

The guy covered in smoothie took the hand and smiled. "Park Jongseong, but I prefer Jay."

Heeseung sat down across from Jay. They began conversation and got to know one another. Instantly clicking.

"So why don't you go back to school? Summer is ending, you know? If you join we would graduate together."

"Yea I wish. Maybe I will, but I'm not too sure." Heeseung looked down and back up wanting to change to subject before it got complicated.

"So you have a sister you mentioned?"

"Yea her name is Park Rue. She's a little monster but I secretly love her. I just like to annoy her at times but she's very important to me"

"I wish I had a sister, or a brother. Heck I just want someone to hang with like sibling."

"Well consider your wish granted, because here I am. Park Jongseong at your service, haha."

"Hmm alright Mr Park, I think this friendship is gonna blossom quite fast" Heeseung chuckled. His face plastered with a smile of joy and for once, a sense of comfort in his lonely world.

"Agreed Mr Lee"

• Authors Note •

One last flashback before the story continues. It was a short chapter, but I dedicated it to showing a bit more of the relationship between Jay and Heeseung. I hope to be able to show the relationships between all characters in this story.

I'll develop more on Heeseung and Rue's ofc. But I'm just finishing up on Jay and his, and then Yunjin and his also. Possibly also more on how Yunjin was watching Rue in the past...
