Chapter 23: Stay

"Nope, Sister-in-law, my hubby's already sorted the house, and we're outta here," Gu Nuannuan chirped, grabbing Jiang Chenyu's hand like a kid eager to leave a boring party. She didn't want him to fuss over family matters.

Jiang Chenyu just sat there on the sofa, his expression unchanged, letting her small hand tug at his.

What was he thinking? No one had a clue.

But everyone in the Jiang family knew Gu Nuannuan was itching to leave. Her reason? Couldn't stand Wei Aihua.

And now, they all wanted Jiang Chenyu to stay. With him around, Jiangsu, the troublemaker, wouldn't dare cause a ruckus. He'd be under Jiang Chenyu's thumb.

In the past, Jiangsu would've been bouncing off the walls at the thought of his little uncle calling the shots. But today, he was oddly quiet.

Seemed like this was his game plan all along.

Wei Aihua even tried to sweet-talk Gu Nuannuan into staying. "Can I talk to you alone?"

Gu Nuannuan didn't miss a beat. "Nope, spill it here. If there's any confusion, my hubby can sort it out for me."

Today, Jiang Chenyu was all smiles, quite pleased with his new title.

Wei Aihua caught the sarcasm.

And yeah, she messed up. "You two stay put, help me deal with Jiangsu. My bad for the drama earlier. Let's be cool from now on."

The living room went silent.

Everyone tried to keep it chill.

Gu Nuannuan was gobsmacked. Wei Aihua, apologizing to her?

Jiang Chenyu weighed his options. "Sis-in-law, what about my folks?"

Thankfully, Gu Nuannuan got her act together, thanks to hubby's reminder. She shot Wei Aihua a determined look, waiting for a response.

Wei Aihua gulped. After some thought, she said, "I'll go say sorry to them myself."

Some folks go all out for their kids' education, others give everything for their kids. Wei Aihua was a mom too, ready to swallow her pride to apologize to her sis-in-law and fam for her son's sake.

Jiangsu breaking stuff, swiping jewelry, or accidentally smashing hubby's cup? No biggie.

The real issue? Jiangsu was strapped for cash.

As the Jiang fam's only son, Jiangsu had it all covered. But now? He was short on dough.

And that got Wei Aihua freaking out.

Had to get someone to keep Jiangsu in check.

So, she tried to convince Jiang Chenyu and Gu Nuannuan to stick around. She was even willing to apologize for her past screw-ups.

And with Gu Nuannuan's hubby sweet-talking her, staying a while longer didn't seem so bad.

Gu Nuannuan sighed, giving up on moving out. Maybe fate just didn't want her to leave.

She obediently unpacked her stuff and put it back in the bedroom.

As she sat down, Jiangsu walked in. "Thanks, Gu Nuannuan. Risked my life to keep you here."

Gu Nuannuan squinted. What was this about? "Jiangsu, don't tell me you did all that on purpose during the day just to stop me from moving out?"

"Hell yeah, what did you think? I went all out, asking grandpa for two billion, threatening to break mom's million-dollar diamond bracelet? You think I'm broke or something?"
