Chapter 99: Memories

Su Xiaomo was followed by another classmate as she left. In the midst of the excitement, a sudden splash echoed, causing everyone to turn their heads.

"Su Xiaomo fell into the pool!" someone shouted.

Gu Nuannuan quickly turned to see splashes in the pool. Su Xiaomo was thrashing in the water, her clothes weighing her down. She opened her mouth, and bubbles streamed out, making it hard for her to breathe. She couldn't open her eyes without them stinging.

She reached out, trying to stabilize herself but kept slipping in the water. Memories flooded her mind. "Second Brother, don't sleep. I'm scared," she remembered crying out. A boy, covered in blood, holding her close, reassured her, "Don't cry, Momo. I can protect you."

The boy bore a resemblance to a young Jiang Chenyu. Su Xiaomo shook her head, as images of a vast ocean and a dark abyss filled her mind. In her memories, she was crying desperately, "Second Brother, save me, I'm scared." Her arm ached, and she tasted blood in her mouth.

She struggled to speak underwater.

On the shore, Gu Nuannuan shouted, "Xiaomo fell into the water!" She quickly shed her coat, ready to jump in.

Jiangsu, already tipsy and red-faced from drinking, heard Gu Nuannuan and started coughing. Seeing Su Xiaomo struggling in the pool, he stumbled forward, pushing Gu Nuannuan aside, and dove into the cold water without hesitation.

Chen Qi didn't get the chance to play hero as Jiangsu was already in the water, swimming towards Su Xiaomo. He wore only a fleece shirt, ignoring the cold and the alcohol he had consumed.

Su Xiaomo's head broke the surface, and she coughed violently as Jiangsu pushed her towards the edge. Gu Nuannuan knelt and pulled the drenched Su Xiaomo out, wrapping her in her discarded coat. Then, she helped pull Jiangsu out of the water as well.

Gu Nuannuan's hand touched the frigid water, feeling its bone-chilling cold. She could only imagine how cold Jiangsu and Su Xiaomo were.

Recovering on the edge, Su Xiaomo glared at Chen Qi's friend. "Song Jiashu, why did you push me?"

Song Jiashu, realizing that Jiangsu had saved Su Xiaomo despite being drunk, felt a pang of fear. Chen Qi, watching Jiangsu, hid his fury poorly.

Gu Nuannuan saw the hatred in Chen Qi's eyes and clenched her fists. Her anger flared uncontrollably.

She walked up to Song Jiashu, punching him in the face and tripping him into the cold pool. Then, she turned to Chen Qi, grabbing his hair and punching him in the stomach before tossing him into the water as well.

With a satisfied smirk, Gu Nuannuan warned, "You two, wait and see."

She hurried Jiangsu and Su Xiaomo into the hotel to change and warm up. What started as a welcoming party had turned chaotic, causing everyone to rush inside to check on their classmates.

Gu Nuannuan instructed Jiangsu, "You drank too much. Don't soak in the tub. Take a quick shower and get under the covers. Leave me a room key; I'll check on you later." Then she carried a shivering Su Xiaomo to another room.

Helping Su Xiaomo undress, Gu Nuannuan noticed a bite mark on her arm, a scar she recognized. "Xiaomo, didn't you have this scar removed?"

Su Xiaomo shook her head, stepping into the bathtub and letting the hot water spray on her icy skin, the heat feeling like knives against her. Gu Nuannuan placed a warm, wet towel on Su Xiaomo's back.

"Nuannuan, call my brother to bring me some clothes," Su Xiaomo requested.

"Okay." Gu Nuannuan called Su Xiaomo's brother and then her own husband.
