"Sure, no problem. If you want Nuan Nuan, you can take her with you today," Jiang Lao hurriedly suggested, eager to get rid of this annoying daughter-in-law. He couldn't stand another moment with her, or she'd drive him crazy.
Looking at his father on the hospital bed, Nuan Nuan said, "Dad, I'm not going anywhere at this critical moment. My husband and I will take good care of you."
"Dad, you don't have to worry. Go have some fun," Jiang Lao insisted.
Nuan Nuan refused to leave, much to Jiang Lao's dismay.
Seeing this, the older couple realized that their daughter had become accustomed to life in the Jiang family.
Not wanting to overstay their welcome, they quickly left after a brief visit.
Before leaving, Nuan Nuan's mother affectionately tapped her on the head and scolded her in a teasing tone, "Eat less junk food, you're a grown-up now that you're married."
When Nuan Nuan accompanied her parents out, she pouted and complained, "It's not like I wanted to eat it. My husband bought it for me."
Jiang Chenyu nodded, "Mom, Dad, I won't let Nuan Nuan be wronged. She likes snacks, so I buy them for her."
The older couple exchanged glances, unsure of what to say.
As they left and got back into the car, Nuan Nuan's mother asked, puzzled, "Honey, do you think Nuan Nuan has developed feelings for Chenyu?"
Starting the car, her father replied, "Their fate might be predestined."
Upstairs, Nuan Nuan returned to the hospital room hand in hand with her husband.
Jiang Lao, seeing his daughter-in-law return, felt a sense of anxiety.
At the same time, he silently resolved: "I'll get a hair transplant when I go back!"
With two people who couldn't help a patient eat, lunchtime came, and despite his hunger, Jiang Lao refused to eat.
Sitting on the bed, he watched his daughter-in-law on the sofa, indulging in snacks.
Nuan Nuan opened a pack of spicy strips, filling the room with its aroma.
Jiang Lao swallowed hard, his mouth watering.
Jiang Chenyu noticed his father's craving and asked, "Dad, are you hungry?"
"I'm not hungry!" Jiang Lao retorted, even though his stomach was growling.
Looking at the IV in his hand, he reminded himself: "This is the last bottle. I'll finish this before eating."
Nuan Nuan also noticed her father's craving for the spicy strips.
She walked in with a pack of Wei Long spicy strips and said, "Dad, open your mouth. Let me feed you one."
Jiang Lao obediently opened his mouth. "Just one," he said.
Jiang Chenyu quickly intervened to stop his naive wife.
"Nuan Nuan, Dad's not well yet," he said.
Seeing her father's emaciated face and remembering the nurse's warning earlier, Nuan Nuan withdrew her hand. "Dad, I'll buy you some after you're discharged. But you can't eat now."
Jiang Lao's face darkened, clearly unhappy.
He shot a resentful glance at his son, knowing he shouldn't eat but still buying so many junk snacks for his daughter-in-law. And eating them right in front of him, teasing him.
Jiang Chenyu said to his wife, "Nuan Nuan, you shouldn't eat either."
Nuan Nuan looked at the remaining strips in her hand and said, "I'll go out to the corridor to eat. I'll be back after I finish, so Dad won't smell it."
