I stood and watched silently in shock as my father, who is also Alpha of the Northern Pack, put down my own brother.
You see, as werewolves we are made to have a mate. That person completes you and gives your life meaning and a purpose that you never had before.
Dom had found his mate, Sasha and was head over heals for her. But a member of another pack challenged him for her.
Dom had won the fight, but he made the mistake of letting the other wolf get away with submission, instead of killing him. When Dom turned his back on the fallen, bloodied wolf, they came at him and Sasha and attacked them.
Dominic fought the other wolf again but this wolf had thought 'if I can't have her, no one can' and killed Sasha.
Dom had gone feral and the darkness that consumes an unmated wolf consumed him.
So now, he had asked dad, his alpha to kill him. And that's how we ended up here.
"Dom, please don't do this." I begged him for the thousandth time.
He smiled slightly, "Don't worry about me, sis. I'd much rather die and be with her than live a life without her."
I let the tears trail down my face, unashamed at my lack of composure. "I'm gonna miss you." I sobbed into his shirt front.
Dom stroked my hair and kissed my forehead. "I know," he sighed. "I'll miss you too. But you have to understand, I can't live without her. When you find your mate and love him as intensely as I did Sasha, you'll understand that where they go, you'll go. Not even death can keep you apart."
Dom straightened up then. "Take care of yourself, Lilly."
Logan, the packs Beta, took me out of the room and closed the door behind us. I made it as far as the next corridor before I broke down. I would have fallen to the floor had Logan not been there to hold me.
He held me against his chest and rubbed my back, murmuring comforting words to try and soothe me.
It was no use. My loud sobs racked my body and I struggled to get a breath through the onslaught of tears.
Eventually, the tears subsided but the pain was still there. At one point I heard my father approach and say calmly "it is done."
To hear my own father speak so calmly about my brothers death, killing his own son, it was too much for my brain to cope with. It shut down, and I fainted.
---------------the next day-------------
I woke up the next day feeling groggy and exhausted, my eyes were raw and I was extremely thirsty.
I thought about shouting for Dom to get me a drink when reality caught up with me.
"oh!" I sobbed.
The door flew open. "Lilly, are you ok?" Logan's anxious voice asked me.
I shook my head silently. And despite dad's strict rule that no male was to be in my room, Logan came and sat on my bed beside me, and pulled me onto his lap.
"Shh, it'll be ok."
"how?" I cried. "how will it be ok, Logan? Dominic is dead! MY OWN DAD KILLED MY BROTHER! How will anything ever be ok?" I sobbed into his shirt.
Logan stretched his arms out and looked at me. "Lilly, you have to understand that your dad had no choice. Dom lost his mate, the pain he was going through was unbearable. He was being torn inside out. He was a danger to everyone, the pack, his family and most importantly himself. As alpha, it was your fathers job to put him down. But Lil, Dom wouldn't want you to beat yourself up about it. He couldn't go on without Sasha and he wouldn't be happy again. The least you can do is to be happy and remember him like that. YOU can't go on like this and he wouldn't want you to."
