"I can't do it anymore." Shane said. "I can't go on without her."

My father and Alpha looked down on him from where he knelt at his feet.

"So be it." He said before slowly raising a gun and pointing it at him before pulling the trigger.

"Nooooo!!" I cried, twisting about in my bed. "No Shane!" I screamed again.

"Lilly!"

I felt a hand grasp my shoulder and heard a worried voice say my name again.

"Lilly, babe, wake up. Please, it was only a nightmare!"

My eyes shot open at the same time as the door opened, but all I could focus on was Shane in front of me and the worried expression he wore.

I only barely saw Logan come through the door through my tear filled eyes. My focus was entirely on Shane. But he heard Logan enter my room and he shielded me from him, growling at him.

"Lilly?" Logan asked me. "Are you ok?"

Shane growled again at him. "Does she look ok to you?!" He said in a pained voice.

I reached out and touched his arm, making sure he was still here. As soon as I felt it for myself I sighed in relief and my tears stopped. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself before speaking.

"I'm fine." I said hoarsely. It sounded like I was gargling nails so I tried again. "I'm fine guys. Shane, relax."

Shane twisted round to face me and stopped growling. I smiled at him and took his hand in mine, squeezing it slightly.

"What happened Lilly?" He asked me, placing his other hand on my cheek.

I leaned into his touch. "It was nothing." I replied evasively.

"Are the nightmares back?" Logan asked me.

I nodded.

"I'll go make the hot chocolates then." He said before turning for the stairs.

I smiled to myself. Every time I had a nightmare, Logan would always come in and comfort me before going downstairs to the kitchen to make us both hot chocolates which we drank while I told him about it. He did it every time without fail.

"Nightmares?" Shane asked me.

I sighed and started to get up to get my dressing gown. "Come downstairs and I'll tell you about it." I said.

As I was about to leave my room, Shane's arms snaked around my waist as he enveloped me in a hug. He sighed deeply.

"Don't do that again, please. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you from that." Shane said quietly in my ear. The shame was evident in his voice.

I twisted round in his arms so I could look at him and put a hand on either side of his face before saying sternly, "Shane, you can't protect me from every little thing that might happen. You can't control my dreams so let me worry about that. I've been coping for years with them and I can cope for some more, as long as I know they're not true."

Shane nodded but muttered under his breath "Doesn't mean I won't try."

Stupid, stubborn werewolf, I thought to myself.

'But you love it,' I heard shane say in my mind.

I gasped in shock. "You heard that?!" I said aloud.

He grinned. 'Sure did.'

Oh shit. I'd forgot that mates can hear each others thoughts. Well this is embarrassing...

'Don't be embarrassed by it,' Shane said in my mind. 'It's a link that is even stronger than a pack link. It's something that should be cherished. And I'm definitely gonna be here when you need me. My thoughts are welcome for you to read.'

I smiled. He's so cute! I couldn't have asked for a better mate.

'Neither could I, babe. I love you.' Shane smiled at me.

'I love you too,' I linked to him. Then his lips were on mine.

It was just a peck, but it sent sparks of electric through my entire body. I'd been kissed before, but it couldn't compare to this. Nothing would be better than this.

'I can think of something that I'm sure would beat it,' Shane whispered suggestively in my mind.

He broke the kiss and took my hand to go downstairs. I shoved him playfully.

'You're an idiot.' I told him.

Shane just laughed.
