*Shane's POV*
I groaned and woke up slowly, the pounding in my head going down to a minimum.
When I opened my eyes, I shut them immediately because of the harsh white light I was greeted with.
After I few moments, I tried again. I felt proud when I could look around without squinting.
It seemed like I was in a hospital, or more than likely a pack infirmary. I could smell the anti bacterial scents that are usually associated with them. From looking out the window in front of me, I could see that it was already dark.
All the beds were empty, except the one beside mine. It looked awfully like...
"Lilly!" I said, flinging myself out of the bed and rushing to her side.
I brushed the hair out of her face gently, hoping to see what was wrong with her.
Just then, a doctor came in. I crossed the room in a flash until I was standing right in front of her.
"What's wrong with my mate?" I growled threateningly.
She seemed to flinch at my harsh tone, but I didn't care.
Walking over to check Lilly. She turned around to me with a smile. "When your father brought you in, she rushed past us all to see you. She cried at your bedside for a few hours and told me she wanted to just sleep in the chair beside your bed." She chuckled. "She put up a good fight, but I told her no, that she could sleep in the bed beside yours. She seemed happy enough. But the ones who were with her said she hadn't slept the whole flight home, so I assume she is exhausted."
I sighed in relief. She was ok.
"Do you know how long she's been asleep for?" I asked, walking over to sit on the edge of Lilly's bed.
The doctor looked at her watch. "I'd say it's coming up on nine hours now."
I looked down on my girl, wishing her to open her eyes. I wanted to hold her, to reassure her that everything would be ok. I wanted to tell her that I loved her.
For the next hour or so, I sat by her bed, stroking her hair or occasionally kissing her hand.
My mother had come in to check on me, but once she saw that I was alright, I asked her politely to leave us and to ask everyone else to leave us be.
Soon, Lilly started to wake up. I'd never been happier than that moment when I saw her eyes open and focus on me. Never had I been happier when she asked, "Shane?"
*
*Lilly's POV*
"Shane?" I asked tentatively, not sure if what I was seeing was an illusion or reality.
"Hey baby," He replied, lifting my hand up to kiss it.
I was so confused. I'd seen him in the field, I'd watched him die! But then I remembered Dylan bringing him in here, and saying that he was alive.
I threw back the sheets and launched myself at him, hugging him fiercely.
"Don't you dare ever scare me like that again." I warned him.
He chuckled and said "Don't worry, I never plan on reliving that experience ever again." And hugged me back. I winced a little at the slight pain that shot through me. I prayed he wouldn't notice, but knew it was no use once he froze and looked at me.
"Are you hurt?" Shane asked, a dangerous tone in his voice.
"Not that I know of." I replied, but that didn't stop him.
He sat me back on the bed and lifted my shirt, checking for any damage. I knew he had found something when he growled angrily.
"What happened to your stomach? Why is there a bruise on it?"
I thought back to earlier and what could have caused it. I remembered Logan carrying me away from Shane and Jeremy, could it have been that?
I didn't realise that Shane had been listening to my thoughts until he crossed the room and opened the door. "Logan!" He shouted out it.
Oh hell, now Logan was in trouble.
No more than a minute later, Logan appeared at the door.
He smiled at Shane. "Glad to see you're ok man, and Lilly, finally joined the land of the living then?"
When he realised Shane wasn't letting him past the door, he knew something was wrong.
"What's up?" He asked nervously.
"I gave you one thing to do. One thing! To protect my mate and she has come back injured, at YOUR HANDS!" Shane growled.
Logan took a step back. "I can assure you Shane that it was not intentional-"
"I don't care!" He exploded. "She is my mate! I could have lost her yesterday and all I asked was to have her kept safe and unharmed. If you can't even do that, how do you plan on being an Alpha?"
I knew Shane had gone too far and decided now was the time to intervene.
Walking up behind him, I slipped my hands under his shirt and slid them around to his stomach, comforting him by the simple touch. Shane inhaled slowly and turned around, although keeping my hands in place.
He smiled down at me. 'Thank you, Luna.'
I winked. 'That's what I'm here for,'
"Logan, I apologise for what Shane has said to you. I honestly don't think he meant it, he's just stressed at the minute. I do think it would be best if you left though."
"Of course Luna. And I am sorry for causing any injuries."
I waved him off. "It's just a bruise. Besides, it'll fade by the end of the day. I'm a wolf, remember?"
Logan smiled slightly and nodded before leaving. I turned around to meet Shane's eyes. "That was rude."
"He hurt you!" He exclaimed, eyes going wide.
"Accidentally! And it doesn't even hurt, not compared to thinking you had DIED."
I felt myself reliving those moments, hating the fact that I couldn't stop it. I had to watch Jeremy latch onto Shane's throat, I had to watch his eyes close one last time. I had to watch what I thought was him dying.
Shane put his forehead to mine. 'I'm sorry. More sorry than you will ever know, for causing that pain.'
I hadn't even realised I was crying until Shane wiped a tear from my cheek. 'I was so scared,' I admitted. 'I thought I lost you.'
Shane wrapped his arms around me and I rested my head against his chest. "You won't ever lose me," He said out loud. "I'm here to stay, if you'll have me."
"I wouldn't want you anywhere else."
