Waking up in the Outer Banks is like a dream. Unless you're a Pogue..like me.
Pogues are basically people from the cut. They have low class parties all the time on the beach. Their houses are falling apart and they work hard. They are also, always up for a mission.
If I'm going to tell you about the Pogues then I might as well tell you about the kooks.
Beware of the Kooks. They don't have any spirt. They're all just a bunch of people with "class" and money who think that they are better than everyone else. The Pogues especially.
I work with Kie at her father's restaurant. I don't make much money but it's enough. Her dad is a Kook. Which technically makes her a kook. She's the newest Pogue. Well Sarah also. Rafe's sister.
Rafe is one of the worst Kooks that I've met. He is manipulative and mischievous. Also a psycho. The boy is crazy and her family in general are all psychos. Except for Sarah and Wheezy. Her younger sister.
JJ is the complete opposite. JJ has been my best friend since I can remember. We first met in the 3rd grade. He skipped kindergarten through second grade. Maybe it was because of his abusive dad. I feel bad for him like all the time. I have never seen JJ without a black eye or even a scratch on him. So you can imagine how upsetting that it is to see.
JJ somehow manages it all. I'm surprised he hasn't fought back. Maybe he's too afraid.
Anyways, JJ is the funniest person ever. No offense to the other Pogues. JJ knows how to have a party and fun. You want to enjoy a life outside of running all the time.. go to JJ. He will stand a chance. He has been to jail twice. The cops say that if he keeps it up, he'll end up just like his dad.
Pope, on the other hand is quite the opposite. Pope is all about school and getting a scholarship for college. He always works real hard. Literally he works with his dad. His father expects a lot from him. My parents do too.
I am originally both a Pogue and a Kook. My birth parents were Kooks and my adoptive parents are Pogues. I've been with my family since I was three. I never got to know why my parents never wanted me. I always try not to think about it, but it's just difficult not to. Questioning why I wasn't good enough. I am grateful for my parents though.
John B has none. His mom left him when he was younger and his dad passed away last year in a boat accident. They never found out how it happened. The autopsy showed collateral damage to the brain. He probably tripped. I don't like to make conclusions because John B still has hope that his dad is alive and well out there somewhere. He believes the body at his funeral was fake. Like, made of rubber or something.
If Big John was alive...why didn't he come back for John B? "Big John (John B's dad) wanted to stay low for a while," I always tell John B. I like to think he is alive too. I don't know why.
Instead of boring you to death, lastly is Kie. Kie Is expected of too. The fact her parents are a Kook with a runaway daughter means that it's harder for her parents. Always being judged by other Kooks. They like to push Kie to do her best, but Kie doesn't care at all. She loves them but wants them both to accept her for who she has become. That never worked out for her. Even when she tries over and over again.
Well, I think that sums everything up. Oh and who am I? I'm Olive Monroe.
Authors note: I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Normally I don't make books like this but I thought I'd give it a try. Like and comment..thanks!!
