❝ Bri? You ready to go? ❞

LACEY HIGH FIELD; 5:26 pm / FRIDAYToday was Lucas' soccer try outs. He had always been the sporty type, unlike me. How do people voluntarily go out in the hot sun and sweat to play a game.
I sat on the benches as I watched him kick the ball around. I don't watch soccer so I didn't really know the rules. Connor walks up to him showing him some pointers as Luke scores a goal. He offers him a high five as a congratulations. He pats his shoulder before moving off to attend to some of the other players. My eyes trail over him as I see how caring he was despite the whole jockular facade, maybe only in my eyes. Was Connor actually not all that bad?
After what seemed like forever, they were finally done. Luke walks off the field dripping with sweat. I scrunch my nose in disgust as I pass him his water bottle and throw his sweat towel at him.
He hangs the towel around his neck, shaking his sweaty head causing drops of sweat to fly onto me. I groan in disgust, scolding him slightly. He just laughs.
"Bri? You ready to go?" Connor walks up to us. Lucas turns to me with a raised brow. I spare him a glance before I nod following Connor.
"Does that mean i'm walking?" Lucas yells out from across the field as we had already walked away. He flings his arms in defeat as he grabbed his things.
BAKERY; 6:35pm—
We enter the small bakery as my nose fills with the scent of fresh pastries.
"This is my favourite bakery. The foods really good here," Connor says. I feel myself smile genuinely. This is a different side of Connor I hadn't seen before. Is it possible I was warming up to him?
We sit at a table across scrim each other as we scan over the menu for what we wanted to order. I decided on a cheesecake and Connor orders a coffee saying he wasn't hungry.
"So, you're technically famous right?"
"I guess so...why you tryna use me for clout or something?" I joke.
"Oh please I already have Brady for that," He laughs. "But I heard your album. It's really good, though it's not my type of music."
I thank him. "So what is 'your type of music'?"
"I don't know. I usually listen to artists like frank ocean, drake,SZA and maybe a little bit of taylor swift because of Val," He admits
"No way," I asked kinda shocked.
"I said a bit," He warns playfully. I raise my hand in defence.
"I'm a swiftie so I don't mind," I chuckle.
"You know Brina. You're really nice and I'm sorry if I had been a jerk to you before," His eyes soften.
I assure him that it was alright. And that we could have a fresh start from here.
"So-" His eyes trail to something behind me as the door of the bakery opens. I turn to see who he was looking at. I'm pretty sure those are the guys from his soccer team. He puts his head down slightly like he didn't want them to see him.
Unfortunately for him, their team stalked over to our table.
"Hey Noon, little date?" One of them teases.
"Fuck off, Ethan," Connor mutters clearly annoyed.
The one now known as Ethan, speaks up,"Not really how you should be speaking to your team captain."
"It's not a date alright. She just my tutor." My heart pangs in my chest. I know he had already said that it was 'just tutor stuff' when he asked me, which is what I wanted but I could help feel hurt that that is all he sees me as. Was he embarrassed to be seen with me?
"You know it's getting dark I should probably go home," I quickly gather my things and leave. As I walk down the pavement, Connor runs after me.
"Bri! Wait!" He catches up to me holding my shoulders to stop me from walking away.
"Are you that embarrassed to be seen with me? The last so recall you're the one who asked me out," I snap.
"I'm not embarrassed-"
"No? The what the hell was that?" He stays silent causing me to scoff. "You know I was really starting to think you were a decent person."
I turn on my heels storming off.
