The Hera

Chapter 1

The Letter

I sit on the edge of my bed staring at the ceiling. I raise my head and make ice patterns above my face.  A knock on the door knocked me out of concentration and I drop a pile of snow on my face.

"Lady Araya, a letter has arrived for you" one of the royal maids called to me. "Okay, I'll be out in a sec!" I yell back. I quickly finish putting on my boots not wanting to keep the maid waiting and run over to the door almost tripping over my own feet. I open the door and the letter, the envelope was white with gold boarders and red stamp in the middle. I thanks the maid, shut my door and went and sat on my bed. I open the letter, it reads,

Dear Lady Araya Sliverstar,

I request your assistance on a very important quest. A friend of mine needs your help though I will understand if you do not wish to partake in this adventure, as the quest is to reclaim a homeland and slay a dragon. You know of Thorin Oakensheild and I know you too do not get along but it would be very helpful you could accompany us on this journey. I hope to see you in three days' time in the shire, one the members of the company lives there and we will be starting our journey there. Tea is at 4 and you will know which has is his as I myself have put a mark on the door that shines a bright blue in the moonlight.

PS: Please do not tell Lord Elrond this quest as he will not take it so lightly.

Best Wishes my dear.

Yours Sincerely,

Gandalf the Grey.

I sit on my bed staring at the letter, paralysed with shock. I haven't been back to the mountain in like forever and Thorin, how the hell will he react to Gandalf inviting me on the quest. I mean don't get me wrong I want to go, I want to help I don't know and I seen Thorin in god knows how long. Plus last time we spoke he said he never wanted to see me again and after all this time I don't know if he would have changed. And after what Thranduil did, he would probably want to kill me the first chance he could get.

I sat there thinking for few minutes until I heard a knock on the door. I shook my head and walk to the door. I opened the door to reveal Lord Elrond

"Araya, I do believe you got a letter today from an old friend of ours, do you me asking what it was about?"

"Of course not Elrond, Gandalf asked me to meet him and some friends of his in the shire in three days' time to go on a journey with him. I am not sure if I should go I don't want to leave you here alone" I say to him with sadness in my voice sadness in my voice by the end.

"Araya, my dearest you are like a daughter to me and want you to do whatever makes you happy, by all means, go help Gandalf, don't let me stop. Don't worry about me I have Arwen and the other elves just promise me that you will stay safe. You are skilled enough to protect yourself. Be smart and be safe" He says to me.

He really is letting me go. He said I was like a daughter to him which means a lot after the death of my own, Elrond is the closest thing I have to family.

"I will go," I say with a million times more confidence in my .voice than before.

"I am glad to hear. I will get one of the elves to get Acorn ready. Be ready to leave in 3 hours I will meet you at the gate before you leave." Elrond stands, walks over then kisses my forehead before he leaves to get Acorn ready.

I start packing my bag clothes, sharpening rocks for my weapons, hairbrush, soap (you know just in case), even though we are stopping in and the shire I still pack some extra food just in case, like the elven bread that never gets stale and last but not least my water bottle. I have a bath and get dressed in some new clothes before I leave. I walk out of my room and to the front, I am wearing a black leather breeches, my black knee high boots with silver buckles on them, a darkish blue elvish shirt with a navy corset on top.

My bow and quiver are strapped to my back, my and dagger fastened to my belt. I concealed the rest of my daggers underneath my clothes. I ran back to my room as I remembered I had forgotten my black cloak that makes me look like a mysterious ranger, I had gotten it from my mother before she died along with a dark green one. I quickly grab my cloak, put it on, tie it up and the front, slung my bag back over my shoulder and made my way quickly down to the gate and see Elrond waiting there for me.

"Where have you been? I saw you on your way here then you disappeared, then came back again" he says very quickly "sorry I forgot my cloaks" I say looking up at him "okay, you must hurry if you wish to make the Shire in three days."

"Elrond have you met Acorn? She is one the fastest horses and with me as her rider. I'm offened that you would think it we might be late." I chuckle and pull Elrond into a hug. We say our goodbyes and I hop onto Acorn, turn back and wave goodbye and then ride off into the sunset.
