Chapter 7
The Hera
Wargs, rabbits and Elves
We followed a trail of troll foot prints towards an opening to what was a cave. As we got closer a foul smell reached my nose which caused me to gag. My senses are stronger because of my heritage, so, it's worst for me than the other. I hastily covered my mouth and nose with hands Everyone eventually did the same as we got closer.
"Well at least we know that we've found the troll cave," I said muffled my hands.
"Dwalin, Nori, Gloin, Bofur and Gandalf you will come inside the cave with me. The rest of you will wait out here." Said Thorin. Thank gods! I do not want to go anywhere nearer to that god-awful smell!
I sat down on top of a large boulder as we waited for Thorin and the others to come back from the cave. Well, that's if they don't suffocate from the disgusting smell first. I looked up when I felt someone sit down on the boulder beside me.
"Are you okay?" I turn to see Kili's worried face.
"I'm fine, thank you for asking Kili. How are you?" I return with a reassuring smile.
"I'm going okay, I suppose. I miss mother."
"Ah yes, Dis, I haven't heard from her since I left, how is she?" I feel a pang in my chest when I remember what happened when I left. That was the second worst day of my life and that's saying something after all the stuff I've been through.
"She has been good, I suppose. Her and uncle don't get longer very well. Uncle didn't something and she didn't think it was right. They still talk but it's an uncomfortable situation to be in." Kili describes a very different relationship between Dis and Thorin that the one I knew. I wonder what happened.
"Strange, they were very close before I left. I wonder what happened?" I say looking off into the distance.
I sense a presence, a powerful presence. I heard footsteps and Thorin and the other emerge from the trees near the cave.
"Something's coming" I announce. Everyone stays still waiting for me to say what. Using my heighten a sense of hearing to listen for what it was. I touch the ground to try and sense what it was, sending vibrations into the earth which will bounce back and give me an idea of what it is. I hear what sounds like a sleigh and footsteps, or something jumping coming straight in our direction. We all moved into the woods, towards the sound of the sled.
"Thieves! Fire! Murder!" Shouted an all too familiar voice, how could I not remember. Radagast the Brown hurtled through the bushes on his sled, that was being pulled by rabbits, and came to a stop straight in front of us.
"Radagast!"
"Araya? Oh, Araya my dear it's good to see you again!" He said embracing me into a hug.
"And Gandalf, is that you?" He said when he caught sight of the grey wizard.
"Radagast, what in middle earth are you doing here?" Asked Gandalf.
"I was looking for you, Gandalf!" Said Radagast. "There's something wrong! There's something terribly wrong!"
"Yes?" Asked Gandalf.
"I... uh... wait a moment. Argh! I had a thought and now it's gone! It was right there on the tip of my tongue!" Exclaimed Radagast. "Wait it wasn't a thought at all! It was a silly little stick insect." Radagast stuck out his tongue and on it was indeed a stick insect. Yep! Still as odd as ever!
Gandalf pulled Radagast aside to talk to him in private whilst the of us just stood around and talked amongst ourselves.
"Araya are you okay?" I see Thorin appear beside me.
