Gotham

Ladies of the manor

Alice and Esme POV

Esme walked around the Department Store (That was called Ladies of the Manor), and placed a few items into the trolley. She then walked around the store and found the items Edward wanted before placing them into the trolley, after making sure she had everything on her list she made her way over to the checkout. Upon reaching the checkout She saw that Alice was already there waiting for her, a couple of dresses (Morden ones from what Esme could see) were draped over her arm.

"Oh those look nice," Esme said as she pointed to the dresses.

"Yeah, I finally found some modern clothes that are the brands I like, the only downside is they went out of style a year ago." Alice huffed as she placed them on the checkout.

"Maybe you can order some clothes on..."

"I tried but getting things sent to this place is hard, every website I looked at charges extra for sending to Gotham and then delivery is like 3 weeks. I don't want to wait that long, I need some new dresses now."

Esme gave Alice a sympathetic smile before she patted her shoulder, she then turned and started to place the items onto the checkout. Once the items were scanned she paid for the items and placed them into the shopping bags, before she turned and waited for Alice to finish, she watched as the dresses were put through the till.

"That will be $934.99." The lady said.

Alice pulled out her little gold-coloured card and placed it in the card machine before she entered her pin and waited.

"Oh, I'm sorry but your card has been declined." the lady said after the machine beeped twice.

"I'll try again, I might have put in the wrong pin," Alice said, giving the woman a smile as she placed her card back in the machine before she put in the pin once more.

Once again the card was declined.

"Oh, I'll try my other card," Alice said as she pulled out her black bank card, that all of them had, each of the cards had between one to two million on them, the card was actually meant to be used for emergencies only (like having to leave a town suddenly, not that they had to do that for years but it was still a good idea to have one it at hand), however, it wasn't usually for Alice or any of them to use the cards to make purchases with now and again.

Once again the card was declined.

"The bank is just a few streets down the road." the lady said

"What for? Why would I need to go to the bank" Alice asked in a note of anger in her voice.

"You can withdraw the money you need from the bank. and then pay for your purchases, sometimes the card machine here can get very temperamental now and again." The lady explained.

"No, I'm not taking money out. I want to try the cards again!"

"Alright, we'll try the cards again."

Alice quickly placed her normal card into the machine once more and typed in her pin (the date her favorite fashion designers first show) once again the card was declined, pulling the card out Alice placed the black card into the machine and entered the pin, the card was declined once again.

"Miss, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to move along as..." the lady started, only for Alice to interrupt her.

"NO, I am not moving along. I know I have money in the bank!"

"I understand, but both of your cards have been declined. And like I said sometimes the card machine in here acts up a little, as I said before the bank is just a few streets up the road, we can put your purchases by for you"
