Iris Newman-Webb, yes, the heiress that lost her fortune due to her stepmother's greediness. She has made amends with her father (Frank), but she can't get through to her stepmother (Gretchen). Everyone knows her name, but without a face, she's just another person. Iris has fought for half a dozen years trying to win Gretchen over, but it wasn't working. On Mother's Day, her father asked her to join the family for a luncheon at their home. Iris reluctantly agreed as she was wanting to put in the effort to try with Gretchen, and her snobby stepsister, Veronica Webb.
Sebastian Cabot has been labeled the black sheep of his family. He doesn't follow the rules very well, and well, his family has decided to cut him from the funds until he learns to behaves himself. His father has arranged a marriage with the daughter of the Webb family, but doesn't realize that Frank Webb has two daughters. He's to marry this woman in about 4 weeks. Once the father is satisfied with the marriage, maybe, just maybe the funds will start back up. Sebastian will pay for the divorce once funding is available, if his wife wants a divorce.
With Iris's life changing, she meets new people and her husband starts to become distant. His actions are not normal and she ends up alone again. Her world starts crashing down around her, but she has friends that she can lean on. Little does she know, she's winning in life.
