Iris's POV
"Sorry," I whispered. I got into the truck and Jay drove us to my parent's house. We walked in with the cash. Jay strapped me into his extra vest. "Let's do this." Dad and Gretchen walked in. "You guys must be in it with some very bad people. Especially to hold Veronica for twenty five million."
"You're a cop now?" Gretchen asked. "From paramedic to cop. Wow."
"LAPD detective," I nodded. "I'm working with CPD right now to bring Veronica home first." I looked at them. "Then, I'll head back to LA."
"Here's the 25," Jay pointed at the bags on the floor.
"And you're going to pay back every penny," Voight stated, looking at Dad and Gretchen. "I'll make sure you'll get your money back, Iris."
"She did not supply you with 25 million," Gretchen stated.
"I actually did. I own two companies and I work," I looked at her. "I am here to help get Veronica back."
"Location of the first drop is a warehouse on Pilson," Hailey walked in.
"Why not talke the full 25 to them?" Dad asked.
"Because we don't want to lose all 25 at once," Jay replied.
"Okay, so we just wait till they request for the second drop?" Dad asked.
"Not necessarily," Kevin nodded.
"Our bag is lined with a GPS," I replied. "Even if they happen to find the GPS, one of the straps has a GPS bill hidden in it." I looked at Dad. "If they find out the bag has a GPS, he'll want to put the money in his own bag for the second drop."
"But our second bag isn't lined with a GPS," Jay stated.
"Except the suspect doesn't know that," I nodded. "It's not useful to burn a GPS bag if the suspect is automatically going to think there's a GPS in it."
"Saving our resources," Voight smiled. "Are you sure there isn't a way to get you to move back to Chicago?"
"There's a spot opening up," Hailey nodded. "You'll get the spot on Intelligence."
"Thanks but no thanks," I replied. "My family is back in LA. I gotta be there for them."
"Just think on it," Jay stated. "I'm sure Voight can get your husband on the unit too."
"I don't think you'll like the fact that he's higher ranked than you," I smiled. "Anyways, let's get Dad wired up. When is the drop supposed to go down?"
"An hour," Hailey nodded. We went to the drop site. I ended up going under as a homeless person. "Iris, you good? You look a little uncomfortable out there. You need to loosen up."
"Yeah, well, I don't ever go undercover due to the fact that I'm somewhat famous," I sighed, digging through a trash can. "Especially in LA. I do a lot of field work and leave UC to the other detectives."
"I forgot about that," Hailey stated.
"Yeah," I nodded. I shoved myseif into the trash can when a blacked out SUV pulled into the warehouse. "An unmarked SUV has entered the building."
"Any farther and you might fall in," Jay stated.
"Oh, you're so getting punched, Chuckles," I groaned.
"Here's 12.5 million," Dad replied. "Please, just give me proof of life." I peered in through a window as they showed him a tablet. "Please don't hurt her."
"We're done here," the guy stated grabbing the bag.
"Tailing," Adam states as the SUV left.
"Clear," I nodded. I walked to my dad. "We'll get her back, okay?"
