Dressed in a black suit with a baby pink button down underneath, my black heels clicked as I made my way to Jimmy. With the assistance of my darling girlfriend, I had my hair slicked into a bun with a few curls sprawling from it. Pendant earrings dazzled my ears a bit, framing my face, as a matching necklace lined my neck.

Swiveling on his heels while nervously bringing his fist to his palm in waiting, Jimmy cracked a soft smile at the sight of me.

Grinning back, I raised a brow at him. "You ready??... You look ready-"

He choked on a laugh. "Shit, so do you- never seen a woman wear the hell out of a suit like you."

At that I joined his laughter. "Then you simply haven't met Noah Jackson-" Once he made a face as if about to ask who she was, I waved a hand, moving onto more pressing matters. "Alright listen, you remember everything I told you?"

"Yup, I got you," he said, straightening his tie with a nervous sigh, glancing around. "Don't speak out 'less you tell me to, tell the absolute truth on the stand, and listen to the prosecutor's questions carefully."

Listening along, I nodded. "And even if-"

"Even if it seem like things goin' left and I'm finna stay in jail- I'm not. Just trust you," he finished with a knowing grin as the two of us shared a look. "I told you Ms. Montgomery, I got you."

Holding back a smile, I shook my head at him. "Y'know, you started off as an absolute pain in my ass, but you may turn out to be the best client I've had so far."

Smirking with a fake pop to his collar, he cocked his head playfully. "So what you sayin' is-"

"Not shit else," I cut him off, locking his arm with mine. "Come on."

Jimmy laughed heartily as I walked us into the courtroom.

A few heads turned to watch us enter, and a few of them shook in disapproval or disdain. Jimmy caught some as we passed, though I instructed him to always look ahead, for they're nothing but an audience who've heard gossip. But in his position, I imagine being framed for something you didn't do and not a soul believing you has to be a royal punch in the gut.

Briefcase in hand, I stood by to allow him to take his seat first, then I sat beside him.

The prosecutor's desk was already filled in on the right hand side of us, but I paid their glancing stares no mind. In fact, I paid this entire courtroom no mind at all. One huge thing I learned from Noah was to focus on your client and your case only. The rest is simply distractions set up to blur your tunnel vision.

Substantial advice from an extraordinary woman, for it's aided me to win every case I've taken on or have been given so far.

Sorting through the file that read 'trial,' I mentally prepared for any and every thing the prosecution had ready to throw at me. This would be one of those times I'd look for her gorgeous face in the crowd, just to dial back the nerves that always seemed to creep in right before it was go time. But then again, she also makes me nervous sometimes, so I tell her not to attend my trials so that I can focus.

The kiss I received on my way out this morning would just have to be enough.

Minutes later, Judge Anderson entered, her heels clicking and her glasses on while her grayed hair was in a tight bun. In the meetings she seemed pleasant enough, but in the courtroom, I could definitely see the reputation she was said to have.

"All rise." Commotion spread as we did so, and Jimmy and I shared a single nodded look. "The Court of General Sessions Seventeenth Judicial Circuit is now in session. The Honorable Judge Blair Anderson is presiding."
